Opportunities for Future Teachers, Social Workers, Farmers, Artists, & Community Organizers

Now reviewing applications on a rolling basis for positions starting in January, June, and September!

Grow your nonprofit experience working in one of our therapeutic schools or communities, where you will learn to lead by putting others first and develop skills for careers in education, social work, organic agriculture, medicine, or the arts.

In your work with Camphill, you will learn how to build a more inclusive, sustainable society where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, like autism and Down syndrome, are supported and empowered to develop their potential and contribute to life in a thriving community. You’ll hone your ability to observe and listen attentively so you can tune into the needs of neurodiverse people with a variety of communication challenges.

You can choose from over a dozen idyllic locations across North America - some of them sited on hundreds of acres of rolling hills, forests, and organic farmland just outside culture-rich towns; others right in the heart of hip little cities. All strive to integrate into and support their local communities and all are conveniently located within two hours of major cities.

We welcome applicants from the U.S. and around the world, so a Camphill experience offers the opportunity to develop lifelong friendships with interesting people from many different countries, backgrounds, and abilities.

During the day, you'll support activities like biodynamic agriculture and forestry; cooking and baking, artisan crafts (woodworking, weaving, bookbinding, ceramics, etc.), drama and music, classroom education, horseback riding, sports, and many other activities. Through a mix of structured training and hands-on practice under the guidance of mentors, you’ll begin to master new skills; before you know it, you'll not only be comfortable with them, you'll be leading others in learning.

At home, you will quickly become part of a warm household community, sharing nourishing meals together and helping with the care, beauty, and running of the home. You will help with the health and care needs of the people with whom you live - some very independent and others requiring ongoing support.

Living and working in Camphill requires attentiveness, perseverance, and an openness to learn. We seek enthusiastic, friendly people with a good sense of humor and a warm heart. Community life offers profound joys and real challenges; for this reason, emotional maturity and health are essential.

Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is helpful but not required - we provide plenty of training. You'll soon learn that the folks we support will, in fact, be some of your best teachers and sources of inspiration.

Benefits include:
  • Free room & board (private room in a community house and farm-fresh food)
  • Monthly Stipend
  • College Loan Support Program
  • Health insurance, including copayments and deductibles
  • Other basic essentials, access to community cars (gas and insurance included), toiletries, etc.
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Generous vacation time

All Camphill locations have taken strong protective measures that meet all current local, state, federal, and CDC guidelines for COVID-19 since early March 2020, and most people in Camphill have chosen to get vaccinated.

If you enjoy nurturing the land, exploring the arts, and working with people, then get your Camphill application in today!
