CDC Office and LocationA research opportunity is currently available with the Office of the Director, Division of Scientific Education and Professional Development, Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology and Laboratory Sciences (CSELS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Research Project: Communication is cross-cutting and integral to advancing DSEPD’s goals of quality learning, valuable service, national leadership, and organizational capacity. DSEPD’s Communication Office aims to establish and maintain a clear and positive role for the communication team as a division-wide resource to lead, support, and coordinate long—and short—range communication activities. We enhance the division’s effectiveness using clear communication and diverse communication channels. DSEPD communication staff collaborate with policy and program leadership and provide strategic and routine communication expertise and consultation. DSEPD’s Communication Office is recruiting a fellow to collaborate on building and maintaining effective and efficient communication operations. Activities will focus on curating, organizing, and managing our communication resources and tools among the communication team, the division, and the agency. SharePoint Online (SPO), shared drives, O365 Teams, CDC/DSEPD’s intranet, and CDC/DSEPD’s internet will serve as the primary sources for these resources and tools.

Learning Objectives: Under the guidance of a mentor, the fellow in this opportunity will engage the DSEPD communication team to improve effectiveness of our functionality, processes, and operations. This fellowship offers the unique opportunity to make a significant impact on promoting the diverse and growing opportunities that CDC offers for workforce development while enhancing the individual’s technical (data management, tracking, organization, and analysis) and practical (communication, problem-solving, coordination, and collaboration) skills.
