Apprentice
The Apprenticeship Program is a short-term, paid internship opportunity to learn about the world of the performing arts and acquire hands-on experience under the guidance of professional arts administrators and technicians in producing an international arts festival. Apprentices work a minimum of 40 hours a week; long workdays and nights as well as weekends are typical.
Dormitory housing plus a travel stipend are provided if needed. Apprentices are paid a weekly salary of $600 for the duration of the apprenticeship.
Apprenticeships are offered in the following areas:
- Artist Services
- Box Office
- Development
- Finance/Accounting
- Marketing
- Orchestra Library
- Orchestra Personnel Management
- Production (orchestra operations, carpentry, stage electrics, wardrobe, wigs/make-up, properties, sound, video, stage management, or production administration)
For 17 days and nights each spring, Spoleto Festival USA fills Charleston, South Carolina’s historic theaters, churches, and outdoor spaces with performances by renowned artists as well as emerging performers in opera; theater; dance; and chamber, symphonic, choral, and jazz music. Now approaching its 46th season in 2022, Spoleto Festival USA is internationally recognized as America’s premier performing arts festival.
Contributing to the Festival’s ongoing success is its location in Charleston. Recognized the world over for its stunning natural beauty, impressive array of preserved historical architecture, and wealth of charming performance venues, Charleston provides an incomparable setting for audience members and guest artists alike.
