Social Media Intern, Office of Communications, Spring 2022
The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is looking for an undergraduate student to be a remote
Social Media Intern and join the Communications team mid-January - May 2022. The Social
Media Intern reports to the Senior Social Media Specialist to help develop and execute overall
social media strategy for the Broad Institute by facilitating thoughtful conversations on important
topics. This includes helping create content for the main Broad Institute social media accounts
(including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn); developing and deploying social media
community engagement campaigns; providing metrics and analytics for measuring engagement;
and collaborating with science writers, video producers, and graphics specialists to create
original content. This is a paid position, 15 hours a week during business hours EST.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with Senior Social Media Specialist to develop, execute, and continuously refine social
media strategy across a variety of platforms (including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and
LinkedIn)
Enhance the sense of community at the Broad both internally and externally through social
media engagement
Assist in posting and monitoring of all social media feeds
Develop and/or adapt text, slideshows, and other multimedia content for use on various Broad
social media platforms to promote scientific or institutional news, and/or for specific social media
campaigns
Work proactively with members of the Communications group to plan social media efforts
around individual stories, events, and related content
Other communications duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS
Pursuing a bachelor's degree, preferably in communications or marketing, with an interest in
social media and journalism
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
Comfortable in a visible role, with the ability to interact professionally with a variety of Broad
employees
Must be flexible and able to manage deadline-driven projects to completion
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
Must be available to work 15 hours a week between the hours of 9 am - 5 pm EST
