Associate Automation Controls Engineer (Shanghai)

The Associate Controls Engineer role provides recent graduates with the opportunity to start and develop their engineering skills in a challenging, fast-paced and impactful role at Tesla.
Candidates may be assigned projects in any of the following areas depending on business need.

  • Vehicle manufacturing (Body, Stamping, Casting, Paint, General Assembly)
  • Powertrain manufacturing (Battery Module, Battery Pack, Drive Unit)

The Associate Controls Engineer will start under the guidance of a Senior Controls Engineer. Automation Controls Engineers design, program and commission automated manufacturing equipment to produce vehicles, powertrain and energy products at Tesla factories. Successful candidates should have a passion for programming, a strong interest in controlling mechanical machines and a willingness to learn and contribute to the team in a rapid and exponentially growing capacity. Automation Controls Engineers are also expected to further the development of Tesla's unique and innovative controls program architecture and standards that will be used to accelerate our future .

In this role, you will learn how to:
  • Design industrial electrical panels, field wiring and machine safety circuits (E-Plan and AutoCAD)
  • Program PLC ladder logic and structured text (Siemens, Beckhoff)
  • Program complex machinery for material pick-and-place, fastening, conveyance, etc.
  • Interface machinery with MES and reports results to quality databases
  • Create intuitive operator touchscreen interfaces (WinCC, Ignition)
  • Program vision cameras for inspection and 2D/3D machinery guidance (Cognex, Keyence)
  • Program and teach industrial 6-axis robots (Fanuc, Kuka)

Candidate Requirements:
·     Recent graduate with BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, Computer

Science or similar
  • Superb computer skills and demonstrated programming proficiency in any language
  • Hands-on experience fixing and troubleshooting things
  • Familiar with common hand tools and diagnostic tools such as multimeters
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing to extended hours and weekend as necessary
