REMOTE: Nuclear Energy Content Analysis Internship
Internship Project
The Society Library is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that models societal-scale deliberation, develops decision-making models, and builds libraries of knowledge on complex social and political issues. We are currently building a database of knowledge and debate about nuclear energy (with a primary U.S. focus), and are inviting students studying in related fields to learn methodologies for analyzing public and political sentiments on this topic through an educational curriculum.
Join us in conducting hands-on analysis and information cataloging on this compelling topic.
We shall cover subjects like:
- The technical basics of nuclear energy production across different reactor types
- Nuclear energy policy and geopolitical topics (mostly U.S. centric)
- The safety, reliability, cleanliness, infrastructural stability, economics, and utility of nuclear energy
- U.S. social perception of nuclear energy over time (media, myths, history, and more)
Internship Curriculum
Training in logical deconstruction and content analysis methods:
Students will learn how to logically deconstruct natural language in: policy, scholarly articles, video content, news media, and more. Students will be given access to a variety of customized search engines and databases from which they may source content for analysis, as well as learn methods for overcoming research biases.
Nuclear energy research and knowledge cataloging:
Students will be invited to analyze media on specific subtopics on nuclear energy, deconstruct content into logical deliberations and bodies of knowledge, and structure this knowledge in a multi-media knowledge graph. Students will learn various analysis techniques, including "context-checking" and other methods. Students may also be invited and encouraged to conduct structured interviews with industry experts and policy-makers.
Internship Details
Basic Requirements:
- 10 - 15 Hours / Week
- Ability to work in fully remote / distributed team environment
- Must have access to a computer and internet access regularly
- Must be willing to learn new things and perform meticulous analysis
- Philosophical logic courses are preferred but not required
- A strong preference for advanced degree students (Masters and Doctoral)
Responsibilities:
- Conduct specified online research
- Complete structured, logic-based analysis of various forms of media including legislative documents
- Perform archival cataloging of media artifacts
- Create visually descriptive logic / deliberation maps
