Associate Editor, Travel

U.S. News & World Report’s Travel section is seeking a full-time, entry-level Associate Editor. You'll be responsible for editing and fact-checking several articles and slideshows on a daily basis. Topics might range from general travel tips and vacation recommendations to hotel and resort roundups to travel-specific product reviews. You should have an eye for typos and be a stickler for spelling, grammar and AP Style. You should love to fact-check and research content to make sure it's as clean as possible before sending to the Senior Editor for a second look. As an Associate Editor, you’ll work closely with a Senior Editor, plus various writers, producers and SEO analysts on the team. You may occasionally have an opportunity to write as well. Your work will help U.S. News Travel elevate its content to the next level.
Our ideal teammate is dedicated, efficient and detail-oriented. The successful candidate will gain experience with online publishing and editing content, and will also have the opportunity to brainstorm ways to grow U.S. News Travel's audience. This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in the travel industry, online media and consumer journalism. Though U.S. News is based in our Washington, D.C. office, this position is open to remote workers. Note: No travel will be involved as part of this position.
As part of the job, you’ll:
  • Edit and carefully fact-check articles, slideshows and other content for flow, consistency, tone, grammar, spelling, AP style and accuracy
  • Employ SEO best practices to make sure articles and slideshows are optimized for search

 POSITION REQUIREMENTSYou should definitely have:
  • 1-2 years of editing experience for a professional or student digital publication, newspaper, magazine or similar entity
  • Journalism or related degree, or equivalent experience
  • Expert writing, fact-checking and copy editing skills
  • Superb knowledge of AP style and utmost attention to detail
  • Ability to work on deadlines and handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational and time-management skills
  • Availability to work East Coast hours
It would be nice if you had:
  • Experience with SEO tools and keyword identification
  • Prior experience editing and publishing content in a CMS
  • Familiarity with the travel and hospitality industry
