The Mount Horeb High School Band program has a storied history going back decades. With a high school of 750+ students, we have a band that stretches 200+ students. These numbers are a testament to our community and district support and passion for music programming. From marching under the Friday Night Lights in the fall at football games to supporting our veterans at a yearly Veterans Day program, our band and music are integrated into almost every aspect of our school identity.
What Your Day Will Look Like:
The majority of your day will involve designing, developing and delivering quality instrumental curriculum and plans that adheres to the national and school district specific guidelines. Engaging and innovative daily lesson plans and learning activities are key in maintaining a high quality classroom that gives access to all students and abilities to maximize their learning and potential. Your time in the role will also include, but is not limited to, the following.
- Planning and organizing various concerts/performances throughout the school year.
- Organizing and carrying out marching band & pep band.
- Ongoing deep collaboration with High School and Middle School music team (choir, orchestra, band)
- Scheduling and coordinating band lessons during the school year.
- Recruitment and support of students to the band program.
- Operating band budget (purchasing of music, instruments, and equipment)
- Coordinating summer band camp with Middle School band directors.
- Co-Directing Jazz Band.
- Collaborate with individuals and organizations in the community that interacts with the band program.
- Supporting school musical.
- Evaluating student performance and delivering helpful feedback to students, parents, and other teachers
- Using various forms of instruction helps students grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally.
- Other duties as assigned.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Valid State of Wisconsin License in Music - Instrumental (1506)
- Experience directing band
- Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program
- Ability to manage budget
- Passionate and engaging educator.
- Demonstrates ability to build positive, nurturing relationships with all learners.
- Ability to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
- Collaborative and solution oriented mindsets.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable, especially during times of change.
- Demonstrates good communication skills, including ability to guide and supervise groups of students, maintain confidentiality, and work with students in a positive and motivational manner.
- Demonstrates proficient office skills with computers and software.
- Able to interact with others effectively, follow directions and initiate activities independently.
- Enjoy working with students and other staff members.
- Demonstrates and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Languages.
- Bilingual (Spanish) skills and abilities are a plus.
