Communications Specialist - Office of the Dean
HJF is seeking a Communications Specialist to support Office of the Dean located at Uniformed Services University Health System in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to Office of the Dean.
Supports and facilitates internal and external communications for the Office of the Dean, School of Medicine, in conjunction with the USU Office of External Affairs. Researches and writes content for print and online communications vehicles, including articles for the University’s blog, and SOM web content. Evaluates current state and devises internal communication plan. Drafts announcements for potential release by External Affairs to external news outlets to advance SOM accomplishments. Understands the digital media landscape and creates content that tells the School of Medicine’s story to key audiences using approved social and other digital media platforms and in alignment within the University’s strategic communications plan.

Responsibilities:
- Provides communications services for nationwide faculty development initiative. (5%)
- Provides communications with national and international program partners. (15%)
- Proofreads and edits various documents. Attends and takes notes minutes at meetings. (5%)
- Coordinate’s meetings nationally and internationally, takes minutes, and facilitates action plans. (10%)
- Provides approved communications with local hospitals, Health Affairs. (10%)
- Assists directors with putting together presentations, editing speeches. (15%)
- Provides communications with external stakeholders through web and social media. (25%)
- Advises and ensures appropriate use of university branding for SOM departments, centers, programs. (15%)
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have outstanding writing and oral communication skills. Keen ability to distill complex ideas and scientific information into language appropriate for a lay audience. Strong interpersonal, research and interview skills. Must have sharp editorial, proofreading and organizational skills. Advanced computing, Social Media and Web skills (familiarity with Drupal, Google Analytics, etc.).
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication or similar required. Master’s degree is Digital communication.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience is required.
Work Environment: Office Environment.
Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid work environment with flexibility to telework a few days per week.
Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
