Transportation Engineer

DUTIES:
• Preparation􀆟on, analysis, interpretation􀆟on, and presentation􀆟on of a wide array of transportation􀆟on related
studies including: transportation􀆟on impact, corridor, feasibility, and parking
• Review and interpretation􀆟on of technical manuals including: MUTCD, AASHTO, HCM, and ITE
• Prepare traffic signal plans, 􀆟timing plans, communication􀆟on plans, and utility “make ready” plans for a variety of clients with an emphasis on NCDOT
• Transportation􀆟on assessments including: signs, pavement markings, sidewalk conditions,
pavement conditions, and traffic signal opera􀆟on
• Prepare small scale roadway designs, construction documents and manage the construction for
small scale projects such as: traffic signals, roundabouts, turning lanes, and intersections
• Project management including: 􀆟me, profitability, agency collaboration, and deliverables
DESIRED SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS and TRAINING:
• Prefer bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a concentration in Transportation or in a related engineering curriculum or equivalent education and experience.
• Prefer PE licensure or ability to obtain within a reasonable 􀆟timeframe.
• Prefer five years’ experience in a traffic engineering or comparable field.
• Applicant must be able to communicate with government officials, other engineering firms, the general public, attorneys, clients, and vendors.
• Prefer familiarity with Synchro, MicroStation, CAD, AASIDRA, Trip Genera􀆟on, word processing, database so􀅌ware, spreadsheets, and presentation so􀅌ware.
• Knowledge of professional manuals such as: MUTCD, HCM, AASHTO, and ITE Trip Genera􀆟on

• Ability to work effectively in a high pressure and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to develop and understand the importance of client relationships.
• Must have a level of intuition that allows attention to details while keeping the big-picture goals in mind.
• Ability to make public presentations and facilitate community meetings – sometimes in a hostile environment.
• Ability to work in a team, collaborative environment, planning, organizing and priori􀆟zing.
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Ability to write technical, persuasive, informational and summary reports.
• Ability to cost estimate, formulate proposals for clients, manage project scope and budgets, and understand profitability reports.
• Prefer familiarity with transportation government operations at the state and local level.
