AOT Technician I - Assistant Bridge Inspector

The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Technician to assist the bridge inspection team leader in the planning phase and execution of all types of field inspection of assets assigned to the team. These assets can be located anywhere in the state on all types of highways.

This position assists the team leader with paperwork, photos, sketches, reports, and everything necessary to document the condition of an asset. The position is responsible for maintaining equipment and the vehicle assigned to the inspection team.

Learning the skills of inspection through mentorship and working closely with the team leaders, the assistant would, depending on ability and experience, perform ancillary asset inspections.

This position involves traveling to all parts of the state, working outdoors in dirty environments, traffic, wading in moving water, dark spaces, on ladders, and along rough, rocky, slippery, and steep terrain. There is a significant amount of field work for this position, April thru November. The remaining portion of the time is spent in an office environment performing inventory checks, data entry and verification, and work on special projects. Regardless of the assigned area or an individual's residence, home-base for all inspection teams is Barre City Place.

While not a requirement for the position, having a valid CDL license (endorsement) would be considered advantageous.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture or related field.
OR
High school graduation or equivalent AND two (2) years of experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.
