Digital Content Intern (Remote, may be located anywhere in the US)

TNC is seeking a Digital Content Intern who is eager to help tailor an organization’s website and social media content for new audiences. Gain hands-on experience, learn more about content strategy and help advance TNC’s mission. You’ll help make our planet healthier, one tweet at a time! 
The Nature Conservancy’s Global Marketing and Communication Division (GMAC) is looking for a Digital Content Intern to fill a paid 10-week Summer internship. The intern can be an undergraduate student or recent graduate (between 2020 and 2022). This position is home-based in the United States and will provide a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between academics and real-world work. We offer an orientation, professional networking opportunities, and real-world work experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Digital Content Intern will help identify opportunities across nature.org and TNC social media channels to better meet audiences in the 18-44 age range where they are. Through research, creative brainstorming, and writing, the intern will help our global conservation organization increase brand awareness and strengthen brand affinity among younger, more diverse audiences. 
The intern will also have the opportunity to create original content on TNC’s website, social platforms and email campaigns. They’ll learn about the inner workings of a highly-visited website while helping improve the user experience. The intern will be an important member of the Global Digital team, reporting to the Senior Digital Content Writer.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
  • Analyze nature.org pages on mobile and provide qualitative feedback on opportunities to improve user experience, voice and tone
  • Familiarize oneself with TNC’s analysis of priority audiences between the ages of 18 and 44
  • Create competitive analysis of the websites of peer organizations, including other nonprofits
  • Identify nature.org articles that could be reformatted into more concise content
  • Creatively pitch online content ideas and write for publication, including web articles, Instagram stories and twitter threads 
  • Contribute ideas and writing to TNC’s social media platforms, including TikTok and Instagram
  • Create collections of interesting/useful photography within TNC’s photography archive, for use on social media
  • Collaborate with the user experience (UX) and social media teams
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • HS Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program of journalism, communications, marketing, sustainability, or related field (anticipated graduation 2022-2023), or a recent graduate (between 2020 and 2022) with a degree in one of these or a related field.
  • Written and oral communication skills experience.
  • Experience in climate change.
  • Experience in research, writing, and editing.
  • Experience with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with major social media platforms.
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience writing for a school or professional newspaper.
  • Coursework and/or exposure related to communications/marketing.
  • Self-starter, taking initiative, and demonstrating confidence to ask questions and seek input.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience creating content on TikTok a plus.
  • Graphic design and video editing skills are a plus.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Access to a reliable internet connection and smartphone.
  • An appreciation of the natural world.

 INTERN SELECTION PROCESS
