Job Summary

Responsible for effectively communicating the details of the software through on-screen assistance, online help, release notes and user guides. This mid-level position reports to the Senior Manager over Technical Documentation in the US and the UX Manager in Bangalore, and is part of the User Experience team. This position is expected to create and update product documentation that is clear, informative, and concise, and is able to work independently on significant documentation projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Product Management, Designers, Developers, Trainers, Usability Analysts, Support Personnel, and other stakeholders to understand the needs and goals.
  • Works as a member of a high-performing Scrum/Agile development team, where effective communication, project planning, and dependability are paramount. Produces draft materials that are reviewed by team and subject matter experts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Uses industry-standard authoring tools to create documentation deliverables such as user guides, help files, release notes, and other documentation in and various outputs, including HTML, PDF, and DOCX.
  • Performs production editing tasks on completed documents to ensure released documents are of the highest quality, guaranteeing that department standards for style and content are followed.
  • Publishes drafts and final versions to appropriate areas and facilitates the handoff to Support, Knowledge Management, Training, and other stakeholders.
  • Provides feedback on usability and design; reports software defects
  • Stays current with the latest methods for authoring, publishing, and delivering technical documentation to maximize the readability and effectiveness to consumers.

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications


Education

Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communications, Journalism, or related field; can be substituted with equivalent experience. Examples: work as professional technical writer or instructional designer with technical knowledge for an equivalent number of years.

Experience

3+ years writing experience in technical documentation. Must be able to show work with end-user procedural manuals, reference materials, and user documentation for audiences of various technical levels.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Ability to work with document processing, desktop publishing, Help authoring tools, and other business software tools. MadCap Flare experience a plus. 
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, time management, and personal organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit both technical instructional material for American audiences.
  • Having studied in the US or having lived in the US for an extended period a plus, but not mandatory.
  • HTML/CSS knowledge a plus.
  • UX Writing experience a plus.
