The laboratory of Dr. Herbert Zheng Wu in the Department of Neuroscience at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has an exciting opportunity for a motivated Associate Researcher to join our team, starting as early as May 1, 2022. The Associate Researcher will support lab projects to investigate the neurobiology of social and cognitive behaviors in mice. This position will involve working with laboratory mice, stereotaxic surgery, behavior analysis, building and programming experimental systems, training animals to perform cognitive tasks, as well as intensive analysis of electrophysiology and functional imaging data. The job responsibilities may also include personnel training and other lab logistics.
The Wu Laboratory is interested in how social and learned behaviors are flexibly controlled by the animal’s experience, internal state, and interaction with other conspecifics. How is the flexible control implemented across seconds, days and years? How do hard-wired and learned circuits coordinate to balance stability and adaptability? To understand these questions, our lab will apply a variety of modern methodologies including single-cell omics, imaging, electrophysiology, optogenetics, quantitative behavioral analysis, and computational modeling. Please visit our website to learn more about our research:
The candidate should have at least a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, biomedical engineering, computer science or other closely related fields. A science or engineering background is required as well as a basic understanding of biology. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience working with rodents and programming experience in MATLAB, Python, LabView or similar language. At least two-year commitment is strongly preferred.
This position is ideal for a motivated individual who is willing to learn new skills and make significant contributions to the building of a new lab. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge biomedical research with a strong translational impact. They will directly report to and be mentored by the Principal Investigator. Authorship on publications is possible depending on the level of scientific contribution. We offer a competitive salary as well as health and other benefits.
To apply, please send a cover letter, your CV and the contact information of 2-3 referees to zheng.wu@mssm.edu. Thank you for your interest in joining our team.
