In Summer Reads, we bring literacy to LIFE!
Join our Summer Reads program, where you'll find ways to inspire others to create their own stories. You'll engage in literacy instruction through tutoring, mentorship, play, music, conversation, and more! We'll have a meaningful summer together while you gain valuable work experience, earn money for your education, and learn and grow in community.

Summer Reads Mentors serve full-time for 8-10 weeks depending on their service site.
They receive a modest stipend ($675 every two weeks) in exchange for their service. At the successful completion of the summer program, they may choose to receive either an Education Award ($1,459) or cash stipend ($276).
Summer Reads Mentors MUST be
- Able to serve full-time (approximately 40 hours a week).
- At least 18 years of age at the time of placement.
- A U.S. Citizen, National or Legal Resident, Refugee, Asylee or have DACA status*.
- Able to clear a general background check, including a search of the Sex Offender Public Registry.
- Someone with a history of (or interest in) volunteerism, work with literacy OR work with children.
- Able to speak English and read out loud to groups/individual children.
- Skilled at keeping themselves organized.
