PeaceTech Lab
PeaceTech Lab is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization affiliated with the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington, DC. PeaceTech Lab works with activists and partner organizations to accelerate and scale peacebuilding efforts through the use of technology, media, and data. From helping activists in India develop apps to combat gender violence, to organizing a radio drama program in South Sudan that counters hate speech, and using data analytics to assess COVID-19-related violence, PeaceTech Lab strives to reduce violent conflict and build peaceful communities in the U.S. and around the world.
Communications Internship
The Communications Intern will provide vital support to the Communications Department at PeaceTech Lab and work directly with the Director of Communications.
Details: This internship will begin in June 2022 and will continue through August 2022 with the possibility of extension into the Fall contingent upon performance and organizational needs. This is a remote position requiring a commitment of approximately 15hrs per week. This position will be paid at $15/hr.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Intern will:
- Provide direct administrative support to the Director of Communications to assist in the overall functioning of the Communications Office.
- Conduct research (including background and contact information) on potential strategic partners, sponsors, participants for PeaceTech Lab’s International Peace Honors Ceremony and help draft emails, formal invites, proposals, outreach plans, and other correspondences to high-profile individuals and organizations.
- Help follow-up, track correspondences and manage invitations and contact spreadsheets for PeaceTech Lab events.
- Help design, draft, edit and implement weekly email newsletters.
- Support PeaceTech Lab and International Peace Honor’s social media content calendar, strategies and accounts, potentially including helping to create and push out content and visually appealing graphics.
- Provide strategic guidance to overall outreach and social media engagement plans.
- Research and propose new strategies, social media platforms and new industry trends to expand PeaceTech Lab’s network.
Desired Qualifications:
- Be an undergraduate or graduate student studying journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, international relations, political science, or a similar field.
- Have excellent writing skills and a talent for quickly drafting concise and exciting public content.
- Be an excellent communicator with a keen understanding of how to craft effective emails, develop relationships, and manage professional communications with high-level partners.
- Be highly-organized with an ability to track long-term projects and organize large events.
- Be proficient in the use of platforms such as Mailchimp, Microsoft Excel, Hootsuite, Zoho, and a range of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
- Have a passion for international affairs, social justice, peacebuilding, and most importantly, making the impossible possible!
