Storyteller
The Storyteller is a new part time position in our organization. The Storyteller will work with the CEO, Fundraising, and Education Departments to raise MarineLab’s profile and brand, develop and communicate stories of impact on the lives of individuals and families, and help attract and engage philanthropic individuals and families passionate about MarineLab’s mission. MarineLab is small and is structured in such a way that the work of each department supports and reinforces the work of every other department. Regular communication and a spirit of teamwork among colleagues are essential to make this structure thrive.
Scope of the Position
The Storyteller will be an integral part of communicating our impact to strengthen the organization’s public profile and advance its mission. S/he will help develop and implement a storytelling pipeline to capture stories to help strengthen the organization’s public profile among prospects, donors, media, and partners. The Storyteller will also seek out and attend community events and assist in creating and marketing events on site to attract the community.
Key Responsibilities
Storytelling
· Develop, maintain, and implement systems that include processes, controls, and documentation for storytelling pipeline and library.
· Liaise with the program services department to tease out stories of impact.
· Adapt field stories for specific purposes including donor community emails, annual reports, white papers, blogs, etc.
Content generation
· Draft original content and guide, edit and support content development by colleagues in effort to increase visibility.
· Assist in the development and distribution of a bimonthly digital newsletter.
· Manage day-to-day social media engagement to grow a community of followers and donors.
· Contribute to regular donor communications (emails, annual report, etc.).
Editorial
· Serve as an editor and contributor for MarineLab’s blog.
· Support media relations, in close collaboration with the Director, including monitoring MarineLab’s public profile, drafting content and sharing recommendations for raising organization’s profile.
· Maintain and monitor brand integrity and editorial guidelines across internal and external communications.
Outreach
· Seek out community events where MarineLab should have a presence, and coordinate and attend such events along with educational staff
· Assist with publicizing and marketing our in-house events, such as Family Days, summer camps, and teacher workshops
· Develop relationships with media and PR outlets
