TLDR; looking for an individual passionate about data transparency who wants to help the team at OpenAxis develop a community for data explorers and storytellers.
OpenAxis is looking for a Summer Intern to help research, curate, and produce data driven content on the platform as we jumpstart a community of data explorers and storytellers.
We seek an individual who enjoys conducting research on salient topics and using data to tell insightful stories. If you keep abreast the media landscape and like thinking about the best way to communicate data by creating interesting charts, you’ll love this role.
You'll partner with our CEO to conduct research on salient topics and outreach to data-driven research organizations as part of efforts to develop data partnerships. This work is critical to the development of OpenAxis as an open source platform for accessible data and charts.
OpenAxis Mission
OpenAxis (Techstars ‘21) is a venture-backed startup simplifying and democratizing data storytelling. It is a platform where anyone can easily share and visualize data to tell stories.
We believe that by equipping people with transparent data and simple tools, communities will crowdsource insights and come to their own data-informed conclusions on topics that matter.
As we build a community of data explorers and storytellers, we will engender a culture of data literacy and transparency.
Responsibilities
- Research, identify, and upload salient public datasets to the platform
- Assist with outreach to data driven organizations, research outfits, media, journalists etc.
- Create interesting and informative data visualizations on the platform
- Research topics to power the data for Factle.App’s daily trivia game (one of our data partners)
- Potentially help write data-driven blog posts and curate the company newsletter
- Potentially help with content marketing across social media channels
The Ideal Candidate
- Interest and experience conducting research and analysis on salient data driven topics in the media, including but not limited to politics, economics, climate, health, media, tech etc.
- Strong media diet
- Experience creating charts on Excel or other tools
- Interest in producing data driven content (i.e., telling stories with data)
- Good time management skills in a fast paced startup environment
- Enthusiasm
