About us
The P. L. A. Y. School is a learn-through-play , part-time preschool. At the P.L.A.Y. School, we believe that each young learner is unique and grasps concepts in his/her own way. We therefore design our lessons with all different learning styles in mind. Children are meant to explore the world around them, and they learn the most when given the chance to learn through movement, art, music and play. When schools use a play-based curriculum, all children benefit.
We are looking for a qualified Part-time Preschool Teacher who has experience teaching 3-5 year olds and thrives in a team-oriented learning environment.
This person would be filling two positions, or could apply to one or the other:
THREES LEAD TEACHER - Tue\ Thu; 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
and
FOURS/VPK ASSISTANT TEACHER - Monday/Wednesday/ Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 PM,
with some meetings and events outside of regular school hours It is a wonderful position for an adult student or parent of school-aged kids with education experience and passion, but wanting schedule flexibility.
This position must be ready to use hands-on learning techniques to prepare small children for kindergarten by easing them into organized education. A preschool teacher must have a great love and understanding of children and their development. Qualifications needed to teach them effectively include knowledge of best practices and preschool educational methods as well as the ability to engage them and earn their trust and attention. Our goal is to prepare kids for the world in a community of play, literacy and arts that supports our young learners and their families.
· Skills needed
- Background experience working with young children
- Understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
- Excellent communication and instructional skills
- Ability to act as mediator between children
- Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
- Balance between a creative mind and a practical acumen
- Certification in child CPR
- Willingness to follow CDC protocol for Contagious diseases, including CDC Covid guidance
- The ability to be active with small children, crouch on the ground and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Minimum DCF 45 hr introduction to Child Care training completed

Responsibilities
- Develop a careful and creative program suitable for preschool children
- Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children. Teachers are responsible for Supervising children - Reading with children and writing down their stories, Facilitating positive social interactions and productive play, leading daily large group and small group projects that focus on each child’s educational needs. Paying attention to child welfare/developmental issues and notifying the director if you have any concerns about the child’s development.
- All staff are mandated child abuse and neglect reporters.
- Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
- Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
- Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.)
- Maintain a consistent daily schedule or required activities and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
- Track children’s progress and report to parents
- Communicate with parents regularly to understand the children’s background and psyche
- Collaborate with other educators
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
- Participate in School-community meetings, special events and activities.
