Engineering Co-Op Rotational Program Spring 2023

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The EFS Engineering Co-op Program is a structured experiential learning program that gives students the opportunity to couple their academic knowledge with practical situations in the work place, and simultaneously allows nVent to evaluate students as potential direct-hire talent. The Program is rotational between various departments, including Product Engineering, Product Development, and Manufacturing. It is designed to engage students in the entire engineering process from development, through testing and applications, and to production. Students are assigned rotations and projects based on their academic levels and engineering capabilities, and are given opportunities to champion these projects to completion and make significant contributions to existing processes. Our candidates are hands-on problem-solvers who are analytical, creative, and highly professional. We seek confident leaders who take the initiative to drive results.
Program Eligibility
Ideally will be pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, with a mechanical or electrical engineering focus preferred.
Must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited college or university and must hold a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout rotations.
This is a full-time program offering 40 hours of work per week.
We value the opportunity to develop students' knowledge of our business, and offer the following benefits to our co-ops:
  • Paid co-op positions in a world-class design, testing, and manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experiences in engineering and manufacturing, with integration into existing engineering teams and assignments under experienced, like-degreed mentors
  • Opportunities to work alongside company and industry leaders possessing top educational and career credentials, as well as diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Rotation between several engineering departments and nVent EFS manufacturing facilities to experience the entire engineering process from development to production
  • Interaction and collaboration with global teams
  • Development and improvement of critical interpersonal skills, including global communication exposure, etiquette, and presentation skills
  • Opportunity to practice classroom theories, and use experiences gained in the work environment to inform class choices and career goals
  • Dedicated management team for the program, with company representatives who balance co-op placements and business needs with student development, while providing support to students through their first professional career experiences

  • Performing engineering calculations to analyze product designs for functionality and specification accuracy
  • Assisting with resolution of technical issues related to product design, system design, and compliance with industry standards
  • Participating in site visits and working with end-user customers
  • Active participation and presentation in design review meetings
  • Developing test plans to verify product design intent and ensure compliance with codes and standards
  • Procuring and assembling materials, and conducting validation testing
2) New Product Development: Students gain exposure to new product design by participating in the conceptualization and development of innovative new products or modifications to existing products. Students will learn the art of balancing engineering design, functional requirements, customer needs, and aesthetic appeal. Responsibilities may include:

  • Fabricating and evaluating product concepts
  • Assisting in creation of detailed drawings, 3D models, schematics, specifications, installation instructions, assembly prints, and test reports
  • Utilizing analytical tools including Finite Element Analysis (ABAQUS) and Matlab
  • Participating in site and supplier visits
  • Active participation and presentation in design review meetings
3) Manufacturing Engineering: Co-ops work in one of our two Solon manufacturing facilities gaining direct exposure to the day-to-day operations of the plant. Responsibilities may include:
