Our initiatives then turn ideas to action and develop human solutions to these digital challenges. Aspen Digital is a program of the Aspen Institute, a global nonprofit organization committed to realizing a free, just, and equitable society.
Aspen Tech Policy Hub
The Aspen Tech Policy Hub, a program of Aspen Digital, is a West Coast policy incubator, training a new generation of tech policy entrepreneurs. We take tech experts, teach them the policy process through fellowship and training programs, and encourage them to develop outside-the-box solutions to society’s problems. We model ourselves after tech incubators like Y Combinator, but train new policy thinkers and focus the impact of their ideas. To date, we have trained two cohorts of full-time fellows, and three cohorts of part-time fellows.
Job Description
The Hub seeks a paid part-time intern (expected commitment: 5-10 hours a week, with hourly pay of $18/hour; some weeks will have more work than others) to work closely with the Hub team to spearhead design initiatives. The ideal candidate will be flexible and able to turn around projects in a timely manner. We hope to hire for this position as soon as possible for a 4-month internship with a potential for extension.
Work includes:
Design (100%)
- Graphic design for logos, icons, infographics, social media graphics
- Layout design for one-pagers, research reports, and slide decks
- UI/UX design on wireframes and front-end web design on platforms including WordPress and Google Sites
- Placing final copy into existing Figma and InDesign templates
- Collaboration with other design resources (such as contracted web developers and layout designers) to deliver digital and print assets
Potential applicants should have experience completing design work in either graphic, layout, or UI/UX design and should be organized, responsible, reliable, and able to meet tight deadlines. This is the perfect role for a student interested in further developing their design skills and learning about the operations of a tech policy non-profit. For an interested candidate, interns may also have the opportunity to assist with events and operations of the Hub more broadly.
In addition to a cover letter and resume, applicants should provide a portfolio of design work that includes at least three previous pieces they have led in designing. Ideal portfolio pieces will showcase the applicant’s ability to create or follow brand guidelines for a company, organization, or club. This portfolio should be uploaded in the “Other Additional Documents” section of the application or a link to a portfolio site may be provided in the cover letter or resume.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We hope to hire as soon as possible so encourage applicants to apply in a timely manner.
