Social Media Specialist (Part-Time)

Job Summary

The Social Media Specialist will create and maintain a strong online presence for the Break Through Tech Miami team. Implements online marketing strategies through various social media accounts (Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter, etc.) and assists with maintaining the website and other student-facing activities.
  • Understands the goals of Break Through Tech Miami's mission to find and retain students in computer science and create a social media strategy to grow the Break Through Tech Miami community.
  • Researches current online social media trends and makes recommendations on strategies to promote Break Through Tech and computer science to new audiences and how to use social media to accomplish that goal.
  • Creates original content (text, images, videos) that will attract new subscribers, write copy for posts and the Break Through Tech Miami website that will sustain readers' curiosity and create buzz around Break Through Tech Miami, as tracked by new users.
  • Tracks users by week and use Google Analytics or other tracking mechanisms to meet subscriber goals.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the website, ensuring it's up to date and has original content, news, a record of events, and update the resources section of the website.
  • Designs and implements a posting schedule/calendar for posts.
  • Facilitates online conversations with the community through chat platforms and respond to queries on a timely basis.
  • Provides recommendations to attract prospective customers, like promotions and competitions.
  • May assist at setting up and tabling events on campus and off-campus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field and one (1) year of experience working with social media in a communications, marketing, or public relations setting.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a social media coordinator.
  • Knowledge of multiple social media platforms and website content creation
  • Ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video)
  • Familiarity with online marketing strategies and marketing channels
  • Ability to grasp future trends in digital technologies and act proactively
  • Excellent communication skills
