Summer Internship: Mechanical Engineering

Maxar is currently seeking mechanical/aerospace engineering students to join our 2023 summer intern program in San Jose, CA. In this role you will be collaborating with electro-mechanical engineers and technicians to design, build, and test numerous mechanisms and deployable products that are later integrated to a spacecraft. These mechanisms are used on-orbit to drive solar arrays, reflectors, and plasma thrusters to their desired orientation. You will be provided the resources and mentorship needed to successfully complete various tasks which can include creating/editing models and drawings, data analysis and trending, creating/editing work instructions, product schedule tracking, and product testing.

Mechanisms engineering interns are needed in the following areas:

  • Mechanism development engineering
  • Mechanism design engineering
  • Mechanism manufacturing engineering
Placement of individual interns within each of these roles will be based on intern's background, intern's areas of interest and Maxar’s need.
What Our Internship Program Offers:
Our 12-to-13 week internship program provides students with hands-on experience in a variety of disciplines. From robotics to data science, Maxar offers opportunities to gain valuable skills and mentorship by working with cutting-edge technologies and industry-leading experts on real missions. In addition to competitive hourly pay, we provide cross-functional lunch-and-learn sessions, professional development workshops, social events, and an executive speaker series. Currently, our 2023 internship program is set to be on-site and/or remote.
Minimum requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U. S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree program with completion of 2 years or more, or currently enrolled in a master's degree program in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering, physics, or related discipline
These skills would be amazing:

  • Experience with the MS Office Suite; Word, Excel, OneNote, Power Point, Project, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, MATLAB, and/or LabView
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably CREO
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and leadership skills

Salary Range:  23-41.98/hr depending on level of schooling
