Buck's Rock Camp is hiring a wide variety of Camp Counselors and supporting staff for its upcoming season in 2023. All staff arrive in late June, a week before campers, and reside on-site through late August. They spend these two months working with kids and teens ages 10-17, while immersed in a thriving community of nearly 500 artists of all ages and from all walks of life and enjoying access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for the furthering of their own art practice . "Revolutionary" and "life-changing" are some of the words that our alumni have used to describe this unique experience.
In particular, Buck's Rock is seeking an Assistant Production Manager. This position is responsible for assisting with the end-to-end management of all campwide productions that fall into the category of Performing Arts. These include but are not limited to: Theater, Dance, Music, and Clown (sketch comedy). Alongside the Production Manager, he/she works in concert with fellow Performing Arts staff (including stage managers, directors, and counselors), as well as staff from supporting arts shops (including Lighting and Sound Design, Set Design, Costume, etc), to schedule and facilitate a full summer program of rehearsals, installs, stage performances, and strikes. This involves not only developing and managing a complicated schedule of rehearsal/performance locations and times but also helping to provision every production team with the appropriate equipment and supplies needed for each of approximately 12 shows throughout the summer, keeping track of available resources and delegating them responsibly. The ideal candidate will be extremely organized, detail-oriented, timely, and an excellent communicator. Notable duties include...
- Managing the rental and/or purchase of necessary theatrical equipment before the arrival of campers in June
- Coordinating the selection of productions appropriate for the camp environment, and developing with fellow staff a program and schedule that sufficiently satisfies the demand, education, and interest of campers
- Attending regular meetings to ensure a strong line of communication between all Performing Arts staff and supporting arts shops
- Collaborating with dozens of other instructional staff working in a variety of disciplines across Buck's Rock's 30+ shops, spanning both creative/visual and performing arts
- Cultivating feelings of joy, belonging, and purpose in young creative minds!
Ideally, qualified applicants...
- Have at least six (6) credits worth of study in Theater, Production Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Have meaningful experience working with teens - or are hoping for more experience in that regard
- Work well in collaboration with others, and can thrive in a busy communal living environment
- Are comfortable spending long periods of time in the heat, as summers in the Housatonic Valley can be very hot and most camp facilities lack air-conditioning
- Have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
