About This Opportunity
In this internship position, you will be responsible for assisting Project Managers, Structural Engineers, Parking Planners, and Restoration Consultants on design, restoration, and planning projects. You will work with the local team and report to the local Director of Design.
 
Responsibilities
  • Collect data pertinent to the project design including surveys, building codes, soils, and other required information.
  • Participate in on-site survey teams of existing facilities to determine the causes and solutions of deterioration or confirming as-built conditions.
  • Visit job sites to observe construction and submit field reports to Project Managers as needed.
  • Assist in reviewing shop drawings and respond to field questions on design.
  • Prepare and maintain submittal logs for projects.
  • Prepare and maintain schedule for projects.
  • Take an assistant role in project documents preparation.
  • Learn how all the project elements form a completed project.
  • Assist with the design of conventional elements of projects including: ACI load combinations, shear, and moment diagrams, calculating column loads considering load path, foundation design (spread footings, piles, and pile caps, drilled piers), retaining wall design (cantilever and basement type), concrete member design (slabs, beams, columns), calculation organization and documentation.
  • Become proficient with the required software.
  • Work with parking planners to collect pertinent data and assist in analyzing and synthesizing data for presentations/reports.
  • Work with restoration consultants to perform repair quantity take-offs and draft condition assessment reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications and Competencies
 
Education Requirements:
  • Junior or Senior level standing (or Master’s student) in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Other Requirements:
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel for field visits within the metro region.
 
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Some experience using Revit. AutoCAD is a plus.
