Working under the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Visual Communications & Marketing Designer interprets verbal and written thoughts and ideas from multiple departments across the council, or the council as a whole, into creative visual representations in print or digital content while keeping with the Girl Scouts brand and standard.

The Visual Communications & Marketing Designer position is a hybrid position NOT a fully remote position. The individual MUST reside within North Carolina and must attend in-person activities within our 41-county footprint when needed.

Major Accountabilities:   
  • Work on a wide range of projects and media, using various computer software to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet the council’s vision and goals. 
  • Work independently and cooperatively on multiple projects with multiple council departments and third-party vendors to meet deadlines and budget constraints and schedule project implementation based on workload, which may include simultaneous projects. Such projects could include social media content and campaigns, direct mail pieces, flyers, digital/print advertisements, event landing pages, publications, and other duties as assigned. 
  • Make any changes needed to the GSNCCP Website. Also, coordinate the council’s website training on a need-be basis.   
  • Mentor and train the Marcom Intern, should the department have one, on Graphic Design work and what it means to be a graphic designer.  
  • Coordinate, take, and edit photographs and videos for the council. Organize and edit the council photo bank and decide what photos Marcom will hold for publications and social media. 
  • Attend GUSA Marcom meetings. 


  • High school diploma or equivalency and three years of visual/ graphics arts experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • Advanced knowledge of and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suites, Adobe Suite, Illustrator, InDesign 
  • Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills 
  • Excellent time management, communication, and organization skills 
  • Experience with video and photography editing. 
  • Commitment to GSNCCP and GSUSA Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Racial Justice (DEIB/RJ) initiatives.  
  • Valid driver’s license and continuous availability of automobile. Travel may be required for media opportunities or council training and meetings. 
  • Must be willing to obtain a GSUSA membership ($25 annually) upon employment and commitment to the mission and goals of Girl Scouting.
