PLANNING INTERN, PT

This is entry level planning work in the office in one or more of the divisions of the City of Miami’s Planning Department. Divisions:
 
  • Urban Design
  • Comprehensive Planning
  • Land Development
  • Art in Public Places
  • Historic Preservation
 
Work involves the application of planning principles and techniques while participating in a broad range of duties within the scope and services of the City of Miami’s Planning Department. Tasks must be performed with skill and accuracy. Specific instructions are received when duties are initially assumed, or new tasks are undertaken.
 

 Essential Functions:Duties may include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Conducting and completing research 
  • Assisting managerial or professional employees
  • Completing Planning projects and/or performing work that involves technical skill or the use of professional and semi-independent judgment in completing tasks within parameters
  • Updating, organizing, retrieving, creating, preparing, and maintaining maps, charts, tables, and other documents
  • Identifying and monitoring prospective federal, state and other public and private grant opportunities that may be a source of funding for HEP/Planning projects
  • Collating Planning best practice examples
  • Compiling data and performance metrics
  • Supporting project managers with website updates and communications
Candidates are expected to:
  • Demonstrate an ability to compile, manage, and report on multifaceted data. 
  • Knowledge of basic planning concepts and standard practices a plus.
  • Demonstrate an ability to read maps and navigate via map and compass; GIS/GPS experience a plus.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take directions.
  • Become familiar with various City standards and codes.
  • Utilize technical manuals and directives to ensure compliance with codes and City policies.
 Minimum Requirements:A recent graduate or student actively pursuing a degree in City, Regional or Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Architecture History, Historic Preservation, Art History, Environmental Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
 
Recent shall mean that candidates must not have graduated more than one year prior to the date of application. A copy of cumulative transcripts reflecting the most recent term of study will be required to be submitted.

THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION AND ARE ACCEPTABLE FORMS OF PROOF: 
  1. Proof of education in the form of Transcripts demonstrating you are a student actively pursuing a degree or recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in City, Regional or Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Architecture History, Historic Preservation, Art History, Environmental Engineering, Geography, or a related field..  If submitting transcripts, submitted transcripts must include the following: student's name, school name, number of credits, degree completion, and major. Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved credential evaluation agency*. If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating; degree completion, student's name, school name, and major must be submitted. Translations of diploma/degrees are not accepted. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.
*Approved Credential Evaluation Agencies
Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by:
 
·  An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR
·  A recognized Professional Organization
