The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Communication Systems Engineer with a strong focus in digital signal processing in Communication Systems. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA. The qualified candidate will join the Communication Payload Command & Telemetry Department. 

The Communication Payload, Command & Telemetry Department (CPCTD) provides technical leadership and expertise in the areas of space communication payloads, navigation payloads, and telemetry, tracking and commanding systems. CPCTD supports Space Systems Command, National Reconnaissance Office, other US Government, and Civil & Commercial customers in space communication and navigation systems. 

Work Model 
Hybrid: This position will be a hybrid work model and offer partially remote with some onsite work required in El Segundo, CA 

What You’ll Be Doing 
Support primary government customers 
Provide cutting-edge communication system and technology research to include: 
  • communications architectures 
  • radio architectures 
  • antenna technologies 
  • communications network concepts 
  • waveforms and digital signal processing
  • concepts of operations & constellation orbital flight concepts 
Support quick-turnaround communications conceptual design and advanced architecture studies for space communication and navigation systems including:  
  • communication link budget and hardware analyses 
  • detailed system hardware architecture trade studies and technology evaluations 
  • documenting project tasks involving complex systems  
  • technology in multi-discipline team environments 
  • Participating in interdisciplinary teams in ongoing research or technical programs with other departments 
  • Support hardware/laboratory work and model-based system engineering (MBSE) efforts.

What You Need to be Successful 
Minimum Requirements: 
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/ university program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Math or another related discipline (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months) 
  • 0-1 year of industry work experience
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Experience in waveforms and digital signal processing especially as relates to satellite communication. 
  • Knowledge in developing or implementing communications architectures including satellite Tracking, Telemetry & Command (TT&C) or mission payload systems 
  • Knowledge of satellite communication and/or Position Navigation and Timing
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. 

How You Can Stand Out 
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: 
  • Experience performing research into waveforms and signal processing using advanced mathematical techniques and modeling.
  • Broad modeling and coding experience in multiple environments (e.g. MATLAB, Python, SQL, LATEX, etc)
  • Ability to obtain TS/SCI Clearance.
