Intern (Hybrid) - 2023 Summer AMS Specialty Crops Program

Job Description:
 Research and analysis of board recommendations on changes to orders for drafting of rulemaking; drafting of proposed and final rules for publication in the Federal Register; drafting of notices to trade on board rulemaking, referenda, and other relevant activities; drafting of responses to congressional and industry inquiries on division programs including research and promotion and marketing order programs; review and analysis of board communications including marketing, nutrition claims and other research prior to its distribution; attend board meetings (in person or virtually) for oversight of board activities; assist division staff with creation of nomination packages for appointments of board members by the Secretary and/or AMS Administrator.
 
Duties:
(1) Prepares notices of proposed rulemaking for publication in the Federal Register;
(2) Prepares news releases on noteworthy activities of boards including rulemaking and referenda;
(3) Prepares responses to congressional and other high-level correspondence pertaining to assigned boards;
(4) Reviews board communications for adherence statutory, regulatory and agency guidelines requirements;
(5) drafts briefings for division, program and agency leadership on issues and updates on commodity board activities and projects.

Preferred majors:
 Agriculture, Marketing, or Writing related majors
Desired Skills:
  •  Good analytical skills; good oral and written communication skills.
Supervision:
  • Interns will report to the National Agricultural Library - Data Production Division - Indexing & Informatics Branch.
  • Interns will receive guidance and feedback from supervisor daily, weekly, or as needed.
  • Interns formal evaluation are completed at the following segments of the internship session, Mid-term and Final Performance Evaluation.
 
Requirements Conditions of Employment:
  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Must be in good academic standing as defined by their academic institution.
  • Satisfactory Background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • The position is renewable, based upon effective performance, availability of funds, and program needs, with the possibility of a multiple-year appointment.
