Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker
The City of Leawood, Kansas will be accepting applications for the Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker position until April 28, 2023.
The Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker will be assigned to the Parks Cityscape Crew and working hours will be Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 3:00pm from May to August.
Summary/Objective
The Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker performs a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks related to the planting and maintenance of flowers, shrubs, trees and turf.
General Responsibilities
- Assists with trash removal, lawn debris and general clean-up of park property and facilities.
- Assists in preparing park property and facilities for public use including but not limited to setting up and breaking down of furniture and ensuring public restrooms and shelter houses are clean and functioning properly.
- Ensures all division equipment, including vehicles, is in proper operating condition prior to use. Adheres to maintenance schedules, checking oil supplies, changing blades as needed and lubricating equipment as needed. Notifies supervisor of unsafe equipment.
- Assists in regular inspections for insect, weed and disease problems in trees, shrubs and plantings.
- Assists in the landscaping and maintenance of City-owned facilities and parks by performing such duties as, but not limited to, planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, pest control, watering of trees, shrubs, and perennial and annual plants.
- Performs various turf management tasks at parks, athletic fields, facilities, and traffic islands around the City. Lays sod and operates various types of equipment, such as string line trimmers and mowers; including riding, walk behind and push mowers.
- Assists in the maintenance of lawn areas of City-owned facilities by performing such duties as, but not limited to, mowing, fertilizing, spraying, watering, aerating seeding, sodding, edging, and trimming.
- Prepares and maintains the athletic fields in which duties include but are not limited to dragging, mowing, painting, chalking, and installing goals, nets, and bleachers.
Education, Training, and Certification Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the city.
