CDC Foundation Internship- Communications

The candidate will assist the CDC Foundation with communication support activities, including gathering content and writing content for internal and external communications content, emails and social media.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work a minimum 30 hours/week during summer semester
  • Be responsible for his or her assigned work schedule and report to the internship site at the agreed upon time(s)
  • Meet with the Internship Liaison on a weekly basis to discuss project progress and internship goals
  • Follow the CDC Foundation policies and procedures regarding dress code and professional behavior
  • Inform the Internship Liaison of any problems that might occur in a timely and reasonable manner, including concerns regarding the lack of substantive work assignments;
  • Supply relevant forms and evaluations to the Internship Liaison to be completed and follow up to ensure timely submission.

Job Duties

  • Storytelling through blogs, newsletters and online stories
  • Internal and external newsletter development
  • Email content development and dissemination
  • Drafting social media content for use across the CDC Foundation’s digital channels
  • Researching content ideas and maintaining editorial calendar
  • Developing lists of online influencers in areas of focus, such as climate change and health, health equity in public health, data modernization and building tomorrow’s public health workforce
  • Creating digital graphics using the enterprise digital asset management tool or video animation tool; and
  • Supporting podcast promotions and other high-priority communication activities.

Qualifications and Necessary Skills

  • Coursework/experience in communications, public relations, marketing or journalism
  • General experience with storytelling, digital media, social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn
  • Experience conducting online research and environmental scans
  • Good written and oral communication skills
