Project Consultant

The Carter Center is guided by the principles of our Founders, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. Founded on a fundamental commitment to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering, the Center seeks to prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom and democracy, and improve health.

The Carter Center hosts the India Policy Initiative. The aim of the initiative is to educate US policymakers on issues related to Indian democracy—and how they may impact the US-India partnership—through policy papers, briefings, and programming.

The India Policy Initiative is seeking a project consultant. The project consultant will assist in the overall project management, communications, and programming for policy stakeholders. The project consultant will report to the initiative lead and the Director of the Human Rights Program at The Carter Center. This position is on a full-time consultancy basis for a duration of 12 months  with the possibility of renewal.
 

Key deliverables:

-        Monitor legislative and other relevant policy developments and synthesizing them for internal review
-        Manage logistics and execution of closed-door briefings and at least 2 public-facing events
-        Draft internal and external communications
-        Track progress and measure data analytics through project management software
-        Support the growth of the network of policy stakeholders to advance the mission of the initiative
 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

-        commitment to the values and mission of The Carter Center and of the India Policy Initiative
-        knowledge of US foreign policy, especially the U.S.-India relationship, including commercial and defense ties
-        understanding of how to persuade key stakeholders in US foreign policy towards India (in government, business, and civil society) to support and strengthen democracy in India
 

Ideal experience and competencies:

-        Two to five years of experience in the U.S.-India policy community
-        Ability to take initiative and manage multiple and competing commitments in a fast-paced environment
-        High degree of professionalism, organization, and efficiency
-        Clear and concise written and oral communication skills in English
-        Entrepreneurial orientation and analytical thinking
-        Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills
-        Academic background at the graduate level in U.S.-India ties and/or the history, politics, and/or economic development of India
-        Authorization to work in the United States (The Carter Center is not able to sponsor work visas)
 
The position is home-based, preferably in or near Washington, D.C.
