Park Infrastructure Supervisor

 Park Infrastructure Supervisor

Additional Information: The City of Leawood offers career development opportunities in which the employee could increase their experience, training, and pay. The position is eligible to receive merit based pay increases every year (merit increase up to 3.9% increase). Employees also receive a Time In Service Bonus every three years of employment on their anniversary date equal to 5% of their annual salary.  
Summary of the Position: The Park Infrastructure Supervisor plans, coordinates and supervises the maintenance of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department facilities and amenities. Facilities include the City’s Aquatics Center, rental spaces, restrooms, playgrounds, shelters and trails. Park amenities may include drinking fountains, benches, pet waste stations, signage and public art. The Park Infrastructure Supervisor is in charge of training the assigned personnel in safety, proper equipment use and general work procedures.
General Overview of Responsibilities: 
  • Plans, coordinates and supervises the seasonal opening & closing and ongoing maintenance of the City’s Aquatic Center. 
  • Plans, coordinates and supervises the facility maintenance of the City-owned Park and Recreational facilities and property. 
  • Plans, coordinates and supervises the janitorial maintenance of Parks & Recreation Department facilities. 
  • Responsible for the oversight, coordination and overall maintenance of the City’s playground equipment to ensure meets safety compliance standards and guidelines. 
  • Plans, coordinates and supervises the regular inspections of surfacing, fencing, lighting, windscreens, backstops, goals and nets at all athletic facilities under the care of the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department. 
  • Assists the Recreation Program Division with coordinating event preparation, setup and restoration. Responsibilities include coordinating the necessary power supplies and lighting equipment for special events. 
  • Responsible for the hiring of regular and seasonal parks maintenance employees. 
  • Supervises assigned crew employees in the daily performance of facilities maintenance work. Maintains daily activity/material documentation for assigned crew. 
  • Trains assigned personnel in safety, proper equipment use, and general work procedures. Assesses skills and training needs to aid in their development.
  • Conducts employee performance appraisals, provides development opportunities and performance improvement needs, and handles disciplinary actions.
  • Assists the department in the development, implementation and evaluation of department programs, objectives, policies and procedures.     
  • Responsible for responding to inquiries and complaints regarding Parks facility maintenance. Uses tact and professionalism in responding to inquiries and complaints.
  • Inventories tools, equipment and materials to ensure that sufficient supplies are available and items are in usable condition. 
  • Keeps abreast of new and existing strategies and products related to park and facility construction maintenance.
  • Employee may be required to assist with snow removal operations and other emergency activities that require occasionally working extended shifts, including after hours, weekends and/or holidays. 
 
Minimum Requirements: Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in construction management, aquatic facility equipment maintenance, park management or equivalent experience with two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience or equivalent experience. Equivalent experience includes Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Park Management or related field with six (6) years of experience with two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience. Three (3) years of supervisory or lead experience, preferred. Supervisory or lead experience includes completing performance appraisals, directing employee's daily work assignments, or evaluating the crew assignments. Must have and maintain the Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO) designation or be able to obtain within one (1) year of hire. Must have and maintain the Certified Playground Safety Inspector designation or be able to obtain within one (1) year of hire. Additional Parks Technical Certifications, preferred. Must have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
