Job Details:
Purpose
The Environmental Sciences Lab (ESL) engineering team at ARL:UT is seeking a motivated individual interested in applied research to aid in the development and field deployment of underwater acoustic acquisition systems in support of defense-related and research applications.
Responsibilities

  • Design embedded, circuit-level and system hardware.
  • Software development
  • Document the design thoroughly and clearly through schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, parts lists and simulation results and document progress.
  • Incrementally test, troubleshoot and verify the hardware and its performance in test environments, on prototype hardware and in-system and integrate the hardware into large and small systems.
  • Work offshore to deploy/recover subsea systems at sea from offshore vessel / work boats and trouble shoot and repair equipment, as necessary.
  • Other related functions as assigned

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Experience in embedded systems development and/or electrical hardware engineering.
  • Ability to use electrical lab equipment for hands-on troubleshooting of electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of common interfaces such as I2C, SPI, RS-232, and USB.
  • Willingness to learn
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to articulate clearly and concisely.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner, results-oriented and a clear focus on quality.
  • Willingness/ability to perform frequent domestic/foreign travel up to 30 percent.
Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and excellent judgment. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.
US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience using PCB Design Tools, Altium.
  • Experience with SPICE or similar simulation tools
  • Ability to create test procedures to validate and ensure that electrical design requirements of products are met
  • Knowledge of electrical, software, mechanical and systems interactions
  • Programming Experience (C, Python, Labview, etc)
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0.
