Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Premier College Intern Program (PCIP) Summer 2024 -Non Military-Construction Projects

The Premier College Intern Program (PCIP) is a paid internship for those pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering interested in Construction related projects.

Civilian Air Force Engineers are responsible for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the Air Force’s largest installations.

This is not a military position. Civilian Engineers are critical members of our team, providing the diverse expertise and leadership needed to secure our nation’s defense. Students will serve a 12 week Paid Internship during the 2024 Summer timeframe, gaining exposure and experience in construction related projects with the Air Force. We are seeking current undergraduate and graduate students to be trained in the Civil Engineering (CE) field. The Air Force Civil Engineering Career Field encompasses a variety of occupations beyond traditional civil engineering, including architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, realty specialists, housing managers, environmental professionals, financial managers, biologists, firefighters, electricians, urban planners and more. These CE professionals are responsible for the Air Force’s largest weapon system — its installations. As critical members of our team, CEs provide diverse expertise and leadership needed to secure our nation’s defense. During your PCIP internship, you will work shoulder to shoulder with current AFCS Civilian Engineers on challenging and rewarding projects, where you will make real contributions and gain invaluable real-world experience. As a Premier College Intern, you may qualify for a permanent full-time position in our PALACE Acquire (PAQ) program once you complete your degree.

Duties typically include:
1.) Uses engineering manuals, standard publications and technical material to obtain information and pertinent data to be used by higher level engineers, program managers, contractors and/or customers. Work closely with Designers, Contracting, Project Managers and base personnel reviewing designs and construction documents from planning to closeout. Construction projects include road work, airfield, renovation and new construction projects.
2.) Exercises accepted engineering work processes to search for information to bear on a problem and recognizes situations which may require referral to others.
3.) Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and professional developments to maintain current in the field and for application to work assignments.
4.) Utilizes an employees software tools such as modelling, analysis and project tracking programs to solve engineering problems and facilitate work across technical, program management, contracting and cost teams.
5.) Recommends technical solutions and outcomes to higher grade engineers and program/project managers while ensuring the information provided is well researched, timely and professionally sound. Able to effectively utilize sound technical judgment in considering the procedures and data used to arrive at program technical trades, solutions recommendations and conclusions.

Premier College Internship Program (PCIP)
PCIP is designed to attract individuals currently enrolled full time in college who are seeking a dynamic career with the Air Force Civilian Service. This objective is accomplished by recruiting and selecting high-caliber candidates and training them to become competent, effective, and productive employees focusing on STEM, Engineering and mission critical career fields. The 12-week summer internship pay ranges between $16.00 to $27.00 per hour. Upon graduation and program requirement completion, a Premier Intern may be converted to further developmental positions without further competition.

Qualifications & Requirements
 
·        A U.S. citizen
·        A full-time student currently enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university
·        Pursuing a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree
·        In good academic standing with a GPA no less than 2.95
