The Office of Digital Strategy and Engagement (ODSE) provides online audience insights, creative digital services, and emerging technology solutions that support the expansion and enhancement of the museum's digital program offerings. Their goals are to grow and diversify the museum's audiences, help improve the quality of online engagement, and increase community impact. ODSE is organized into four key areas to support these goals, Digital Experiences, Digital Strategy and Services, Collaboration and Community, and Audience Insights. These four areas include supporting the museum's websites, mobile apps, cloud services, and digital experiences, digital audio/visual streaming services and theater operations, Google Analytics for web and mobile audience data, and the Robert F. Smith Center for the Digitization and Curation of African American History.
In collaboration with colleagues from across the museum and throughout the Smithsonian, ODSE is committed to "connecting the dots" in ways that deliver a holistic digital experience to NMAAHC staff, visitors, and online communities that is innovative, engaging, and impactful. The Searchable Museum Team is a highly collaborative, team-oriented group focused on developing new, and adapting current, Museum exhibitions, collections, scholarly and educational resources for digital audiences. 
The Searchable Museum Intern will contribute significantly to the product management and content development of the Searchable Museum. The selected intern will have the opportunity to enhance their digital production skills and build a professional network while gaining skills in myriad fields. At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will have completed a variety of projects that will enrich their portfolios, resumes, and understanding of the museum’s digital initiatives. The intern can expect to learn how to build a digital product; gain experience with historical research and content management; understand program management; learn Agile framework and methodology; work with NMAAHC’s technology portfolio; and develop an understanding of how NMAAHC engages digital audiences. The applicant should have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to work well in a fast-paced environment in both group settings and independently.
Duties shall include:
  • Create project schedules for In Slavery’s Wake and Chez Baldwin digital exhibitions 
  • Assist product owner with daily duties including sprint review, stand-up, and sprint planning 
  • Adapt exhibition scripts/content for digital audiences 
  • Suggest development priorities based on content scripts 
  • Develop a Lesser-Known Story and Constellation 
  • Attend team and exhibition planning meetings 
  • Identify related content on Searchable Museum and NMAAHC websites
