Civil Engineering Design Supervisor
Description
Under general supervision, performs technical professional work related to the planning, design, construction and administration of a variety of public work projects; does related work as required.
Examples of Duties
- Design and/or manage roadway improvements, water main and sewer main extensions, greenways and bridge replacement projects.
- Supervise work of assigned senior engineering technician in the development of design plans.
- Work effectively with City surveyors to obtain data necessary for design and plan development.
- Work with and provide technical information to City officials, employees, contractors, State and Federal officials and the public.
- Prepare cost estimates and specifications.
- Prepare documents for and assist with the acquisition of necessary right-of-way and easements for projects.
- Provide and approve design changes during construction of assigned projects.
- Perform site visits related to projects.
Typical Qualifications
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and extensive experience in professional civil engineering work.
- General knowledge and experience using ArcGIS.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office programs and the ability to comprehend and utilize other City software programs.
- Knowledge of NCDOT specifications and State and Federal regulations as they relate to public works projects.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Possession of strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
- Possession of excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Supplemental Information
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina.
• Have or be able to obtain a valid North Carolina's driver’s license.
