Internship, Universal Creative - Show Programming (Ride Design & Show Technology) (Spring 2024) 

Spring 2024 Semester:

JOB SUMMARY: The intern will work on 3D modeling, rigging, and animating ride systems and mechanical show equipment under guidance and direction, utilizing 3D animation software.  Learning objectives include animating and evaluating motion with precise performance parameters, scripting for ease of workflow and exporting of animation data and collaborating with different disciplines throughout various phases of project development.  The intern will also learn about the creative design and development process of attractions from early ideation all the way through final show integration in the field.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes 3D model and rig ride systems and mechanical show equipment from CAD drawings or clean up and optimize imported models.
  • Animates under creative and technical guidance within performance parameters using scripting to aid in the workflow.
  • Utilizes scripting, outputs show profiles to various formats to be presented to and evaluated by other disciplines.  Document processes and work completed.
  • Analyzes various parameters required in coordinating mechanical ride equipment with facility, ride and show.
  • Assists with iteration and development of future attractions currently in production utilizing 3D software.
  • Participates in brainstorming meetings for new ride concepts and ideas.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION: 

  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Sophomore or above.
  • Recent graduates will not be eligible for this program.
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is preferred. 
  • An official transcript may be required upon request. 
  • Preferred majors include: Computer Animation

 

EXPERIENCE: Prior internship experience related to position is preferred.



ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

Preferable skills for success in role include but not limited to:

  • Creative and technical thinker/designer/animator with a passion for the theme park industry.
  • Preferred level of experience with Python, Maxscript or MEL.
  • Required skills in 3D Studio Max or Maya, with modeling/animation skills that represent attention to detail, real-world scale, and realistic motion
  • Must be efficient in Microsoft Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and organization. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Superior written & verbal communication skills.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and/or in teams.
  • Consistent attendance.

  • This internship will be an in-person experience, based in our Orlando offices.
  • Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university, and must have a graduation date later than April 2024.
  • Universal Orlando does not provide housing. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
