Communications and Marketing Intern

EcoAgriculture Partners seeks a motivated and bright marketer, writer, multimedia storyteller and social media maven to join our team as a Communications and Marketing Intern.

We are a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, engaged in research and advocacy for impact in agriculture and rural development. Specifically, EcoAgriculture Partners strives for a world where agricultural communities manage their landscapes as eco-agriculture to enhance rural livelihoods, conserve biodiversity and ecosystem services, and sustainably produce crops, livestock, fish, and fiber simultaneously. 

EcoAgriculture Partners is the convener of 1000 Landscapes for 1 Billion People (1000L), a radical collaboration of change agents working together to accelerate landscape efforts to sustain and restore ecosystems, build rural prosperity and confront climate change.

The communications intern will regularly interact with program staff to gain an introductory understanding of international rural development and finance, integrated landscape management, and international policies related to agriculture, ecosystem restoration and biodiversity. They will also meet weekly with the 1000L communications manager for feedback, to monitor the status of projects, and to develop and pursue a mutually agreed upon communications project of their own design.

This is a remote internship. Applicants can live in any country but must have access to good wifi and be available from 9 am – 11 am EST on Mondays and Thursdays. EcoAgriculture Partners will provide a monthly stipend of $600.


Requirements

  • Senior or Recent graduate with a major in journalism, marketing, communications, environmental studies, conservation biology or a related subject
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and a demonstrated interest in storytelling
  • Experience in graphic design utilizing Canva or similar 
  • Familiarity with various social media channels (FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram)
  • Familiarity with the content management platform, SocialPilot
  • Strong multi-tasker able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible and willing to learn on the go
  • Video editing skills are a plus

 

Responsibilities

We are looking for a marketing and communications rock star! Reporting to the Communications Manager, the intern will support communications activities for 1000L and occasionally EcoAgriculture Partners over a negotiable period from October 1, 2023 - March 1, 2024. Tasks and duties include:  

  • Produce engaging social media content and conduct social listening to help 1000L engage with audiences and build brand awareness;
  • Support PR activities by generating media lists, writing story pitches, and curating content.  
  • Create simple infographics and support the design of multi-page collateral (social media graphics, brochures, flyers)  
  • Write engaging journalistic-style articles and other writing tasks such as interviewing experts and copyediting other articles. 
  • Other communications, outreach and administrative tasks as assigned.
