Salary: $50,000 - $60,000
JOB SUMMARY:
The Communications and Media Manager will provide leadership, vision, and management to enhance and expand the communication efforts of The Pride Center at Equality Park, your local LGBTQ+ community center. The Manager is responsible for helping The Pride Center “tell its story” in the community, prioritizing communications messaging throughout The Center. The Manager will enhance and implement The Pride Center's comprehensive communications, social media, and marketing strategies to increase the visibility of programs and services and conduct targeted outreach among the diverse communities we serve. The Manager will coordinate The Center's day-to-day social media presence and content, including social media platforms, website, and marketing-related communications. The Manager will oversee all Center communications activities, including graphic design and production, media outreach, and external marketing communications. The Manager will conduct and coordinate targeted internet and app-based Wellness and HIV prevention outreach to individuals, groups, and communities most heavily impacted by HIV in Broward County. The Manager will spearhead ongoing Wellness marketing campaigns. The Manager will mentor staff and volunteers in communications and media, helping create a culture of telling The Center’s story.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Spearhead the enhancement and expansion of The Pride Center’s communication efforts.
- Create and implement strategies to help The Center “tell its story” in the community; Identify and pursue opportunities to share the day-to-day work, impact, narratives, and mission of Center programs, staff, volunteers, events, outreach, groups, and services.
- Organize and implement strategies to ensure maximization of Center communications, media, and marketing resources to impact broad, diverse communities.
- Manage the use of social media tools by The Pride Center to connect people to vital information, resources, activities, events, and support.
- Implement social media outreach strategies to reach diverse populations for wellness messaging, HIV prevention, education, and interventions to prevent transmission of HIV and other STIs under the direction of the Wellness Manager.
- Coordinate activities toward the ongoing development, distribution, and promotion of creative Wellness marketing campaigns, including HIV prevention, testing, education, linkage, anti-stigma, and interventions under the direction of the Wellness Manager.
- Provide graphic design for Center materials and projects; Coordinate vendor and volunteer graphic design services for events, programs, and resources.
- Develop, increase, and manage a network of volunteer professionals willing to provide volunteer communications, media, PR, marketing, graphic design, photography, videography, and emergent communications projects and services; Ensure recruitment, training, supervision, evaluation, and recognition of volunteers necessary for communication, media, and marketing activities, campaigns, and events.

- Convene and manage regular volunteer-driven Communications and Media Work Group activities, projects, initiatives, and meetings to ensure the pursuit of The Center's communication, media, and marketing goals.
- Prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice in communications and media planning and implementation.
- Make communication efforts a priority throughout The Center.
- Mentor staff and volunteers in communications and media; Help create a culture of telling The Center’s story.
- Manage all social media and website content for The Pride Center.
- Identify areas for improvement and consistent updating on the website and all social media platforms.
- Utilize social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube) and mobile phone applications for outreach, including those popular with men who have sex with men (MSM) for dating/sexual encounters.
- Evaluate, assess, and expand the use of new/emerging social media platforms as appropriate.
- Update and provide appropriate written guidance, policies, standards, and recommendations governing the use of social media within The Center, including communications, social media outreach, and marketing for the Wellness Program.
- Train and equip staff, interns, and volunteers to utilize social media tools to pursue outreach and communication objectives, including Wellness and HIV prevention outreach.
- Provide Wellness-related health information, education, referrals, and service linkage.
- Conduct targeted outreach as needed--both in-person and internet--to HIV-negative individuals and people living with HIV (PLWH) in Broward County and engage individuals in their neighborhoods or venues where they typically congregate to provide Wellness and HIV-related health information, education, referrals, and linkage to services.
- Provide outreach, health education, and support in conjunction with other Pride Center teams and community members, including active leadership in major Center and community events.
- Create and expand relationships with media and press throughout South Florida; Serve as point-of-contact for media inquiries and scheduling press interviews.
- Ensure all communications, social media outreach, and marketing contract deliverables are met. Managers must regularly review contracts for compliance with expectations and requirements.
- Ensure appropriate structures exist for organization and communication around media and marketing goals and strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate communication, social media, and marketing efforts utilizing effective metrics.
- Report usage, track traffic, monitor trends, and gauge the success of communication and social media, processes, and tactics.
- Conduct appropriate focus groups, surveys, art projects, and creative endeavors to assist in the evaluation of Wellness and other Center communications activities.
- Maintain accurate and complete social media outreach records, tracking contact, and participation as defined by evidence-based models, local/state/federal entities, and The Pride Center, including any needed database input.
- Provide required reports which include, but are not limited to, monthly social media wellness outreach reports, contracted program reports to funding sources, staff or Board of Directors reports, service delivery plans, and any contracted outcome reports.
- Ensure all newly diagnosed individuals reached via social media outreach are linked successfully to medical care and medication for HIV.
- Ensure all high-risk negatives reached via social media outreach are linked to PrEP and other essential support services.
- Verify clear and consistent documentation of all linkage services.

- Develop close working relationships with internal team members and external agencies to ensure coordinated, comprehensive client services and to avoid duplication.
- Attend and participate in area network meetings as assigned by the COO or Wellness Manager.
- Adhere to strict procedures of confidentiality, release of information, and data security.
- Submit reports, invoices, receipts, and requests to the COO in a timely, organized manner. Collaborate with the COO to ensure proper budgeting and expenses.
- Meet regularly with the Wellness Manager and other Wellness Program staff for proper planning, reporting, and program evaluation.
- Attend all Wellness, Key Staff, and All Staff meetings.
- Maintain an organized office space and professional communication standards, including prompt return of emails and phone calls.
- Comply with The Pride Center Code of Conduct and Employee Handbook.
- Other activities as assigned by the Wellness Manager or COO.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
- Proven experience managing professional communications strategies for a vibrant organization with a reputation for quality and excellence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Degree in communications, graphic design, or marketing; OR equivalent direct experience in communication, media, design, and marketing documented through portfolio review.
- Advanced graphic design skills.
- Proven knowledge and experience with communications and media techniques; direct work experience around nonprofit communications is strongly preferred.
- Proven skills using Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, MailChimp/email marketing, Google Analytics, Google AdWords, and project management software, Social Pilot, and other marketing and communications tools.
- Technology skills with social networking sites, mobile apps, social media strategies, and outreach to LGBTQ+ communities.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring staff and volunteers in communications and media and ability to help create a culture of telling an organization’s story.
- Direct experience working in a culturally proficient way with LGBTQ+ communities, PLWH, and other diverse peoples with cultural proficiency. • Exemplify and embrace The Pride Center’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice.
- Experience with Apple operating systems.
- Computer skills using Microsoft software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), IOS, and other operating systems required.
- HTML and CSS knowledge is preferred.
- Knowledge in wellness, HIV/AIDS prevention, outreach, and holistic health promotion.
- Certification preferred in HIV/AIDS 500 and 501 Prevention Counseling, Testing, and Referral. (If not, the candidate will need to acquire training and certification post-hire.)
- Knowledge of specialized services for people with HIV/AIDS; substance abuse; and domestic violence.
- Experience in recruiting and organizing volunteers.
- Ability to train volunteers to accomplish duties and special projects.
- Organizational abilities and critical thinking skills. Logic and analytical ability.
- Attention to detail with the ability to not lose sight of the big picture.
- Ability to work in a hands-on environment with limited resources.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as with staff and volunteers or in a team setting to achieve goals and accomplish tasks.

- Ability to work well under pressure and de-escalate challenging situations.
- Physical ability to move about campus and around the community.
- Bilingual/bicultural skills preferred.
- Must have access to a personal vehicle to perform outreach, events, and networking duties.
- Some nights and weekends are required.
