Mechanical Engineering Intern Fall 2024

ENGINEERING INTERN

An Engineering Intern at M3 is...
Someone who will help project teams design, test, and prototype concepts for our clients and their customers. You will support project teams with prototyping, 3D CAD modeling, engineering analysis and detailed documentation tasks. You will regularly draw upon your ability to problem solve and your excellent interpersonal skills.

What You’ll Do
During your seasonal internship you will work closely with other Design and Engineering team members to develop products across the Lifestyle, Healthcare, and Workplace industries. You will work under the supervision of a project engineer who will help answer questions and provide guidance to complete tasks. You will be part of brainstorms, be assigned projects tasks, and help with design and prototyping of concepts. Above all, you’ll learn while you create products of the future alongside a creative and driven M3 Design team. During this internship, you will also collaborate on an intern design project with a real budget, a client, and a team consisting of you, a project manager, and an industrial designer. Our goal for our interns is that they conclude their time at M3 Design having had the full design consultancy experience and understand how to go from research to concept to implementation and delivery.

Skills You Will Need
You are familiar with design related tools: CAD (Creo or SolidWorks), prototyping, testing, and engineering analyses. You have used analytical tools including FEA, custom spreadsheets, MATLAB, and MathCAD. You have built prototypes and learned from them. If you’ve programmed or used an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or LabView, this is a plus. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, can work with minimal supervision, and are willing to take direction from project team members.

Experience / Education required:
You are working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or have recently graduated. You have experience in solving design problems (for school or personal interest) through analysis and prototyping. You have a portfolio showing some of your projects and are passionate to learn.

1. Organized and self-driven with good time management skills
2. Hands-on experience with designing, making, and building prototypes or test fixtures
3. Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from an engineering program at an accredited institution
