Materials Engineering Intern

We are looking for a Materials Engineering Intern who loves working in a dynamic environment and is excited to grow with a team around advanced additive technologies. As a materials engineering intern with Solvus Global you will work with team members from many fields (mechanical, controls, software, etc.) to develop the process & procedure, validate the process, and ultimately deploy the process into full production.

 

As an intern-level materials engineer on this team, you will especially be responsible for supporting rapid innovation in material and process development, as well as materials testing and analysis to ensure that our teams meet our customers’ needs. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include contributing to team activities, designing, and executing experiments, analyzing additively manufactured materials via metallography, mechanical, or corrosion testing, and assisting selection of ideal materials.

 

Required Attributes & Skills

  • Shown interest in materials engineering (or pursing degree in materials engineering)
  • 0-3 years of practical experience in technical materials testing & analysis role
  • Data entry and handling as well as report writing
  • Desire to develop new skills on the job
  • Laboratory skills and strong experimental practices
  • Be self-managed and committed to a fast-paced environment
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to be hands-on in the lab

 

Advantageous Attributes & Skills

  • Experience with 1-2 of the following:
    • Experience with metallography (mounting, polishing, analysis)
    • Experience with mechanical testing (i.e. tensile, wear, bend, shear testing per ASTM standards)
    • Experience with analytical equipment (i.e. micro-indentation, SEM, etc.)
    • Experience or desire to lead small teams and manage projects
    • Experience in additive manufacturing and metallic powders
