Summer Technical Theater Internships

The Naples Players is searching for motivated, confident, and creative theatre artists for our Summer Internship Program. Interns will work closely with the professional full-time staff members in mounting the summer 2024 season. Qualified interns may also have the opportunity to assistant or fully design scenic, costumes, lighting, sound, or props for TNP's educational theater program.

Summer 2024 Shows are: 42nd Street, The Lightning Thief, and on student show for ages 11-15.

The Naples Players is currently undergoing a 21 million dollar renovation which will expand capacity in our Lobby and Main Theater, as well as, create updated shops, add additional rehearsal spaces, and include a second brand new blackbox theater specially designed for to education.  Summer Interns will be instrumental in coordinating and assisting the move back into the building as well as mounting the summer shows and helping establish policy and expectations per theatrical space.

The internship is approximately a 3 month program, with housing located walking distance to the theatre and downtown Naples. Start and end dates are negotiable.  Extensions into a full season internship position are available.

Positions available stage management, scenic, costume, lighting, sound, props, education, and admin. 

All interns have day to day check ins with their department heads to establish daily and weekly tasks, then a once a month evaluation with the Internship Director to ensure both student and company goals are being reached. All interns are also provided with workshops throughout the season which can include: Resume/Cover Letter & Branding, Hydraulic Lift & Rigging Training, and Cross Departmental Training Days.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 18 years of age 
  • Enrolled full or part time at a college or university, or recent graduate
  • Majoring/minoring in Theatre or Theatre Education, or applicable degree (education, arts administration, non-profit administration, etc.)
  • Minimum of 1 semester under degree

Skills:

  • All Departments are looking for individuals who are adaptable and able to openly communicate with supervisors, volunteers, and students.
  • All Departments are looking for individuals who can both work in a team and individually.
  • All Departments expect professionalism in all aspects of assigned duties.
  • Scenic
    • Basic Scene Shop knowledge of tools, safety, and construction
    • Basic painting techniques
  • Costumes
    • Basic hand and machine sewing skills
    • Basic alterations and construction
  • Lighting
    • Basic knowledge of electrics and safety relating to hang and focus
    • Basic board programing
  • Sound
    • Basic knowledge of audio equipment and safety
    • Basic audio terminology
  • Props
    • Basic construction, paint, and fabrication techniques
    • A strong sense of creativity and problem solving
  • Stage Management
    • Basic knowledge of word and numbers processing documents
    • An openness to work evenings and constantly changing conditions
  • Education
    • Basic knowledge of word and numbers processing documents
    • Tact, patience, and kindness in working with students 4-18 both neurotraditional and neurodivergent and their parents
  • Administration
    • Basic knowledge of word and numbers processing documents
    • Comfort working both in a quiet and lively office environment

 

The Naples Players is a one of the largest non-profit volunteer based theaters in the nation, located in scenic downtown Naples, Florida. TNP produce 6 plays, 3 musicals, readers theatre, and multiple student shows every season.
