Mechanical Engineering Internship (Summer 2024)

Position Summary

DRS Network & Imaging Systems in Dallas, TX is part of the Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems Group of Leonardo DRS and has over 30 years of experience in designing and developing electro-optical/infrared systems. We are seeking a Senior Technical Intern to join the company to support engineering staff by performing research, design support, documentation, engineering calculations, testing and verification, and other related tasks as skills allow. They will work closely with and assist engineers in the conduct of various engineering assignments. The candidate must be a well-organized self-starter, able to work in a team environment, have good communication and technical skills, and able to professionally interact with others.

Basic Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Degree(s) Required: Associate degree or 2nd Year status minimum in an Engineering curriculum
  • Degree(s) Preferred: Pursuing undergraduate or Master's in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited university and maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2024

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience preferably CREO; high school or college drafting courses acceptable
  • Internship or technical project experience
  • Has held leadership positions in teams

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist mechanical engineering team in activities that may include CAD modeling, drawing creation, tooling design, data collection, data analysis, design verification testing and vendor item sourcing research
  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status
  • Complete assigned tasks on time
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks to gain familiarity with the engineering staff, methods, programs, and practices
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization
  • Other duties as assigned
