Intern - Field/Lab Technician (Geotechnical/Construction Materials Testing)

Job Description

We are looking for eager intern candidates interested in gaining real world experience in the geotechnical engineering space.  As an intern, you'll be exposed to the various aspects of the industry, working alongside some of the best engineers and techs in the region!  Make no mistake, this isn't a "fetch coffee and make copies" internship; we're looking for hard-working, dedicated, anxious-to-learn individuals to fill these spots.  If that sounds like you - read on! 

Summer interns will have the opportunity to gain exposure to the lab, field and office environment, based on student interest and company needs. Internships will be full-time for the summer.

Interns will learn how to test concrete, soils, ensuring that materials used during construction meet all necessary quality benchmarks. Duties may include:

• Geotechnical: coordination of underground utilities, marking boring locations, verifying access, geotechnical drilling
• Soils lab: performing and calculating Atterberg-limits, sieve analysis, proctor compaction, one-dimensional swell tests
• Concrete lab: marking and stripping cylinders, checking dimensions of cylinders, breaking cylinders, calculating strength of cylinders
• Field (Drilling): experience how samples are collected while drilling.   
• Other duties as assigned

Summer interns will also have the opportunity to meet with company executives, and participate in other professional development opportunities.

Education and Experience

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program, either at the undergraduate or graduate level. All majors will be considered, but preference will be given to those in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, geosciences, geology, construction management, concrete management, or a  related field.

Interns must live near or be able to move to the internship location on their own. We DO NOT cover relocation expenses for interns.
