Theatre Program Resident Teaching Assistant: Associate Choreographer

The RTA: AC will work closely with the Director of Theatre, supporting classes with detailed note taking, time management, coordination of materials, and participation as requested. This RTA will also serve as Associate Choreographer by assisting the Director with devising, planning, and execution of choreography, creating and teaching original choreography to the cast as requested, and maintaining detailed notes on all movement-related aspects of the production. 

This RTA will share Social Media Coordinator responsibilities with the RTA: Production Stage Manager. They will document day-to-day happenings, promote special events, spotlight individual students & faculty throughout the session, and collaborate on a consistent post schedule across platforms. 

Responsibilities also include supervision of campers and attendance accountability throughout the day, evenings, and weekends. RTAs are involved with residential life, sharing daily supervisory responsibilities. RTAs live in dormitory rooms alongside student rooms and assist in supervising the dorms under the guidance of experienced dorm leaders.

  • RTA Training will require your arrival on either the evening of Monday July 1st or the early morning of Tuesday the 2nd. Led by dorm faculty and Summer Programs Director during business hours on Tues 7/2 & Wed7/3, it will cover everything ResLife (including but not limited to: drop-off & pickup expectations for commuters, dorm duty, emergency protocols, code of conduct, on and off-campus activity expectations).
  • Thursday (4th of July) off.
  • Theatre RTA Training/Prep with Director of Theatre and Music Director all day Friday July 5th, plus a few hours Saturday 7/6 as needed.
  • Students arrive Sunday July 7th, and the session runs Monday 7/8 – Sunday 7/28. Performances Saturday evening (7/27) and Sunday afternoon (7/28), followed by strike and student move-out.
  • Staff can choose to stay on campus through Monday 7/29, depending on what still needs doing. Students and strike/clean-up responsibilities will come first, of course.
  • The RTA: AC will support all classes on weekdays between 9:00am-12:00pm and 4:00-5:00pm.
    • They will prepare audition and scene work materials required for participation in certain subjects, and will occasionally lead daily warmups.
    • Guest artists will join us at least once a week for masterclasses and workshops; the TA: AC will be encouraged to participate.
    • The RTA: AC will keep choreography notes and assist with rehearsal for the “Variety Show” on Friday July 19th, 2024 (in which they’ll also be invited to perform.)
  • The RTA: AC will collaborate with the Director as requested on choreography for [The Musical] during rehearsals on weekdays between 1:00pm-4:00pm. 
    • They will spend time ahead of rehearsals planning and occasionally creating original choreography of musical numbers with the Director, maintain very detailed notes, and sometimes teach choreography directly to cast members.
    • They will select a Dance Captain from the cast, and mentor them in the job responsibilities thereof. 
    • They will make themself available to assist cast members with after-hours practice as requested, and occasionally participate in meetings outside of rehearsal time with the Director, and/or Music Director on an ad-hoc basis.
    • The RTA: AC will be prepared to run recorded sound as necessary.
    • They will be expected to master basic lighting & sound setup in all rehearsal spaces, and have a laptop or other device in all rehearsals with said recorded material ready.
  • The RTA: AC will be required to attend all on-campus evening activities and chaperone off-campus trips.
  • Compensation: $1,500 stipend, plus dormitory room on campus at Wyoming Seminary July 1st/2nd – 29th. All meals provided July 7th – 29th, 2024.
