Resident Teaching Assistant: Production Stage Manager (RTA: PSM)

The RTA: PSM will work closely with the Director of Theatre supporting classes with note taking, time management, coordination of materials, and participation as requested. This RTA will also act as Production Stage Manager for our full-length musical by facilitating communication across creative and technical departments, coordinating sets, props, lights, and sound, and calling technical cues from the booth during performances. This RTA will share social media responsibilities during the session, documenting day-to-day happenings, promoting special events, spotlighting individual students & faculty, and collaborating on posts across platforms.

  • RTA Training will require arrival on the eve of Monday July 1st. 
    Led by dorm faculty and the Summer Programs Director on Tues 7/2 & Wed 7/3, it will cover everything ResLife (including but not limited to: daily safety & accountability responsibilities, night/weekend dorm duty, emergency protocols, code of conduct, on and off-campus activities). 
  • Day Off Thursday July 4th.
  • Theatre-specific RTA Training/Prep with Director of Theatre & Music Director Friday July 5th, plus a few hours Saturday 7/6.
  • Students arrive Sunday July 7th, program runs Monday 7/8 - Sunday 7/28.
  • Performances Saturday evening (7/27) & Sunday afternoon (7/28), followed by strike and student move-out.
  • Staff can move out on Sunday 7/28 or Monday 7/29. Student move-out and strike/clean-up responsibilities will take priority.
     
  • RTAs will live in and supervise dormitories, alongside students, and report to the Director(s) of Residential Life & Activities.
    • They will become very familiar with both student and staff codes of conduct, and model exemplary behavior as representatives of Summer at Sem both on and off-campus.
    • They must be ready to execute any/all emergency protocol (medical, physical safety, mental health, etc.).
    • RTAs will cover several nights per week “on-duty” (as scheduled by the Directors of ResLife) which will require them to be on-campus and available as needed starting after dinner, and to complete attendance checks for all boarding students at designated “lights-out” time (usually 11pm).
    • RTAs are expected to attend all on-campus evening activities & chaperone off-campus trips.
       
  • The RTA: PSM will support classes on weekdays between 9am-12pm & 4-5pm.
    • They will prepare audition and scene work materials required for participation in certain subjects, and will occasionally lead daily warmups.
    • They will be encouraged to participate in weekly Guest Artist masterclasses and workshops.
    • The RTA: PSM will keep detailed technical/logistical notes and assist with rehearsal for the "Variety Show" on Friday July 19th, 2024 (in which they’ll also be invited to perform.)
       
  • The RTA: PSM will collaborate with the Director as requested on blocking, music, and design for Disney’s Beauty & the Beast during rehearsals on weekdays between 1pm-4pm. 
    • They will be responsible for recording detailed staging and design notes, marking set dimensions as needed coordinating rehearsal props and furnishings, and keeping Technical Director up to date on design requests and/or changes.
    • They will make themself available to assist cast members with after-hours practice as requested, and occasionally participate in meetings outside of rehearsal time with the Director, and/or Music Director on an ad-hoc basis.
    • The RTA: PSM will be prepared to run recorded sound as necessary.
    • They will be expected to master basic lighting & sound setup in all rehearsal spaces, and have a laptop or other device in all rehearsals with said recorded material ready.
       
  • Summer at Sem Creative Arts Social Media Support:
    Led by the RTA: Design & Administration, and supported by other Resident Teaching Assistants.
    • Become familiar with rules & style choices regarding tone and content for official posts.
    • Develop engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.) by researching audience preferences and current trends. Collaborate with fellow RTAs, deferring to RTA: D&A.
    • Assist in the creation and editing of written, video, and photo content for all three Creative Arts Programs: Film, Dance, and Theatre. Occasionally produce live social media content.
    • Maintain unified brand voice across different social media channels.
       
  • Compensation: $1,500 stipend, plus dormitory room on campus at Wyoming Seminary July 1st - 29th. All meals provided July 7th - 29th, 2024.
