Building Information Model (BIM) Intern in Oregon

Position Summary: The Building Information Model (BIM) Intern will work within the BIM Department and will report to the BIM Department Manager. They will work closely with the project team and other members of the BIM Department. The BIM Intern will perform document management of 3D model content, assist in coordinating site logistics and learn clash reporting and publishing Navisworks models. This position will be fully in-office.

 

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Receive and distribute model files from designers, project team members, and subcontractors.
  • Clash test and publish Federated Models using Navisworks Manage.
  • Participate in jobsite inspections of installed conditions as compared with model geometry, including photo documentation and reporting. General QA/QC using the latest platforms.
  • Attend BIM coordination meetings and take and distribute comprehensive and concise meeting minutes.

 

Qualifications:

Position Related Skills

  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams) and have a general understanding of working with a computer network.
  • General knowledge of Autodesk Navisworks Manage including Navigation and Clash Detection.
  • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method. Familiar with CSI specification system for construction.
  • Training in design document reading, design specifications and techniques.
  • Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.
  • Ability to communicate and present design and/or construction ideas to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work well and maintain a cooperative attitude through high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work while frequently interrupted by phone calls and questions on work in progress.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to work closely with variety of trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to collaborate with various personnel within and across departments and at all levels of leadership.
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.

Education

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Pursuit of a college degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent degree and/or equivalent field work experience required.
  • Education background in materials and methods of construction.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements: 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position in an office environment more than 50% of the time, with the occasional requirement to move about the construction site.
  • Must be able to access work being done on multiple levels.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machines, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Occasionally uses machinery and other tools to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, and position materials.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus in an outdoor environment. Must be able to; visually inspect work, look for small defects, and small parts, and/or operate machines (including inspection); use measurement devices; and/or assemble or fabricate parts. Must be able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid driver's license.  The worker is required to have the ability to perform duties such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; reading printed and digital documents.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in proximity to loud equipment.  Must be able to wear hearing protection as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting and, on the phone/digital meetings. 
  • Mental alertness, accuracy and attention to detail required.
