Internship – Public Relations, Corporate Communications

JOB SUMMARY: This intern role will allow the student to gain firsthand experience and understanding of PR and its role within Trade, Marketing and Sales at Universal Orlando. Core responsibilities include assisting with day-to-day information distribution, coverage tracking, writing media materials, media management, assisting with event planning/execution, etc. Intern will also have the opportunity to shadow campaign planning and implementation for marquee events such as Mardi Gras as well as new product/offer launches.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops various PR materials, including media alerts and press releases.
  • Regularly updates media contact lists and monitors Media & PR inboxes, including answering media requests in a timely manner.
  • Participates in brainstorm sessions for major PR tactics and pitches.
  • Tracks media coverage and sentiment and provides summary reports to management, as needed.
  • Assists with implementing tactics and event planning, including broadcast shoots.

Internship – Discover Universal, Video & Podcast Opportunities

 

Discover Universal – Video

JOB SUMMARY: Intern will assist with the creation and publishing of Discover Universal video content from implementing best practices on our channels to assisting in gathering approvals for individual episodes. Intern will also provide and collect feedback and analyze results. The purpose of the role is to help the Intern learn what it means to be a content creator and a marketer for a major brand. They will develop as a professional, honing their organizational, strategic thinking, and creative skills.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attends video shoots and rehearsals.
  • Research talking points.
  • Assists with providing and collecting feedback.
  • Works with other DU Video team members to publish content.
  • Assesses and interprets YouTube analytics.
  • Writes blogs when needed.

Discover Universal - Podcast 

JOB SUMMARY: Intern will assist with the Discover Universal podcast from brainstorming topics and ideas, assisting with show flows, writing show notes, assisting with listening to episodes and providing feedback. The purpose of this role will help the intern learn about content creation in the audio space as well as producing content for audio and video. They will also learn organizational skills, marketing, and hone in on their writing skills.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internship – Event Management 

JOB SUMMARY: Intern will support Universal Orlando Resort Event Managers with the planning and execution of events, with the opportunity to plan and execute smaller events individually. Successfully collaborate with various operational elements such as entertainment, catering, ticket and VIP tour requests, air and ground transportation, merchandise, credentials/giveaways, and itinerary development related to event goals and objectives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports a wide range of events that include but are not limited to meetings and familiarization “site” trips, corporate market “picnics,” social market, internal marketing and sales divisions, community relations, corporate and incentive events and more.
  • Works closely with operations, entertainment, catering, revenue operations, publicity, guest services, parking, security, and outside vendors.
  • Plans and executes a small meeting individually, with guidance.
  • Attends event related meetings, completes and distributes event itineraries, facilitates event logistics, tracks event budgets, and handles post billing and event evaluations.

Internship – Event Sales 

JOB SUMMARY: Intern will learn about the Theme Park Event Sales industry while gaining hands on experience developing an event sale, prospecting leads, client proposals, customizing contracts, site visit preparation and assistance, attending private after-hours and networking events, handling convention ticket orders, and developing a strategic plan for their next steps into their career.  Intern will learn the key factors that the Event Sales Team focuses on when talking to clients in the discovery phase, work alongside the Event Sales Managers and Representatives, and shadow events. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Talks through discovery phase with clients to determine appropriate event opportunities.
  • Quotes cost of events utilizing costing tools and spreadsheets.
  • Develops event proposals to send to clients for review.
  • Works with an Event Manager or Event Representative on customizing contracts and site visits.
  • Coordinates site visit logistics such as arrivals, timing, back of house security clearance requests, and merchandise. 
  • Attends Private After-Hours Events, and Networking Events.
  • Meets with clients alongside Event Sales Manager or representative.
  • Processes ticket sales, from input to delivery of a ticket order.

JOB SUMMARY: Interns will receive a comprehensive overview of the intricacies involved in overseeing social media channels, digital communities, Content Creation, and business organization within a Fortune 500 Enterprise Company. Intern will lean to create strategic assessments through data-based decision-making, connect primary and consumer research to insight and strategies, and gain an understanding of the theme park marketplace.

  • Research and analyzes both internal and publicly available information, including competitive intelligence, to create strategic assessments that can aid team leadership in informing overall business strategies or potential opportunities.

Internship – Consumer Insights, Qualitative Research 

JOB SUMMARY: The Qualitative Research intern will work alongside industry professionals to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and networking opportunities associated with the UDX Consumer Insights function. In this position the intern will have the opportunity to learn about the qualitative field functions, including coding and reporting qualitative data, semi-structured interviewing techniques, observation research, and training and oversight of the qualitative field team and projects.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts ad hoc interviews and observations.
  • Identifies themes deductively and inductively to code data.
  • Conducts applied thematic analyses to analyze data sets.

Internship – Marketing Assurance, POPCORN 

JOB SUMMARY: Intern will explore the compliance requirements and process flows within the Creative Marketing team by working with the Marketing Assurance team. This role will allow the Intern to discover how POPCORN partners with Legal Affairs, Strategic Partnerships, and other marketing and sales divisions to further Universal Destinations & Experiences initiatives. Intern will aid in development of training materials, data collection and validation, and overall agency process flows to ensure day to day operations efficiencies are maintained.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in developing training materials for Marketing Assurance to be used in POPCORN.
  • Maintains data regarding contracts, compliance, and processes for POPCORN. 
  • Assists as needed for relationship building and training for all of POPCORN. 
  • Participates in weekly and monthly meetings with POPCORN and our key partners.

Internship – Creative Agency Operations, POPCORN 

JOB SUMMARY: Intern will gain real-world view into the POPCORN creative agency operations and solve problems that will arise in their careers in the future. Intern will gain experience with a project management system of record (Workfront) and how it facilitates the execution of creative ideas to an in-market tactic. In addition, Intern will provide direct support to agency operations managers with process flow refinements and assist in the next generation of onboarding and training materials to ensure employee engagement and satisfaction in job aids and resources.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides ongoing data governance using reports to identify issues in the system; follows up with appropriate parties to update data. 
  • Helps inventory, organize and improve existing department training materials. 
  • Develops visual documents to illustrate process flow. 
  • Supports the agency's use of Workfront, assisting with reporting, user support and process improvement.
  • Works with various teams on project management duties, such as creating/configuring projects, ensuring data maintenance, closing out projects. 
  • Flags project schedule timeline or scope challenges for program/project managers.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION: 

  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Senior or above.
  • Recent graduates will not be eligible for this program.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required. 
  • An official transcript may be required upon request. 
  • Preferred majors include: Marketing, Project Management, Journalism, Public Relations, Business.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

Preferable skills for success in role include but not limited to:

  • Skills in collaboration, critical thinking, time management, initiative, project management, and attention to detail required.
  • Experience with Workfront, Workamajig or similar project management tools preferred.
  • Marketing experience preferred.
  • Must be efficient in Microsoft Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and organization. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Superior written & verbal communication skills.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and/or in teams.
  • Consistent attendance.
