How and why we do it

At Kisi, you will have the freedom to do your work in the way you work best. There’s a flat hierarchy (work alongside our co-founders Carl, Max, and Bernie!), a strong sense of ownership, and the freedom to get creative. We also try to limit meetings as much as possible so that you can have dedicated focus time. Our mission is clear: ensure ease of facility access and remote space management, providing access systems to create a secure future where spaces are connected and accessible without boundaries.

Your role:

As a Product Design Intern focusing on Prototype & Showcase Fabrication, you will play a crucial role in bringing our product concepts to life through physical prototypes and compelling showcases. You will work closely with our design and engineering teams to create tangible representations of our ideas, facilitating better understanding, testing, and refinement of our products. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in product design and development within a dynamic and innovative environment.

Your responsibilities:

Prototype Development:

  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Utilize various fabrication techniques and materials to create functional prototype showcases that accurately represent design concepts.
  • Iterate on prototypes based on feedback from internal stakeholders and user testing to refine product features and usability.

Showcase Fabrication:

  • Design and construct visually appealing showcases to highlight the key features and benefits of our products.
  • Implement creative solutions to effectively communicate the product's value proposition and user experience through physical displays.
  • Ensure consistency with branding guidelines and maintain high standards of craftsmanship in showcase fabrication.

Material Research and Sourcing:

  • Research and evaluate different materials and manufacturing processes to identify the most suitable options for prototype and showcase fabrication.
  • Establish relationships with suppliers and vendors to source high-quality materials and components within budget constraints.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and advancements in fabrication technologies to enhance the efficiency and quality of our prototypes and showcases.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Document the fabrication process, including material specifications, techniques used, and challenges encountered, to create a knowledge base for future reference.
  • Communicate progress updates, challenges, and insights effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project objectives and timelines.
  • Prepare presentations and demonstrations to showcase prototypes and showcases to internal stakeholders and external partners.

Your qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in industrial design, product design, architecture, or related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 2D and 3D modeling and prototyping.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication tools and techniques such as 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and woodworking.
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship with a passion for creating aesthetically pleasing and functional designs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Resourcefulness and willingness to learn new skills and techniques in prototype and showcase fabrication.

This internship provides an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience in product design and fabrication while contributing to the development of innovative solutions.
